Cobalt is a great idea and obviously works and is being very well received:

Stronger Magnetic Field= higher signal but also wider bandwidth and clearer and MORE bottom end.

How about a PREMIUM ( yes , we will pay more ) Super Cobalt Set which includes the High E B and G strings in Cobalt Alloy ?

There will be increased output, bottom end and bandwidth, sensitivity on the high strings which are the ones we really want to SING during solos !

This could be an even bigger breakthrough- for plain E B G strings.

What do you say EB ?

I second that request, I just wonder if that would lead to an unbelievably bright sound? Maybe even some feedback issues? I could be way off though

Im sure they tried something along the lines and didnt find an improvement. A more factible option would be for the top strings of the set to be the same from the titanium coated set so the whole set lasts more.

The cobalt doesnt work as a plain string only a wrap wire

Meaning it doesn't have enough strength or elasticity to function as a plain string ?

If you take the plain steel wire and add a percentage of Cobalt- what won't work ?

I thought the higher strings were always plain steel as a cost issue- can't they use the regular Steel Alloy with 5 to 10% Cobalt ?

Cobalt is added to steel alloys to make them harder but they are also more brittle, which means less elasticity, i.e. they will break at a lower tension. That's not good for plain strings but OK for windings because the core takes the tension.

(I don't work for EB and that's not an official answer. It is a however this particular physicist's guess.)

Thanks Dr Kev- I understand and we definitely need the elasticity to bend and Vibrato etc etc- was hoping they could sneak a little Cobalt in there.....

Since you're a Physicist- was the Big Bang caused by ?:

1 ) Quantum Vacuum field spontaneous accident of Nature

2 ) Very Intelligent Aliens ( we can make an H-Bomb , they can make a Big Bang Universe )

3 ) God

4 ) Explosion out of a Supermassive Black Hole in another Universe reaching some type of critical mass stage

Thanks- once we've got this straightened out we can go on to the really hard stuff -like Tonewoods.

What do you mean off topic ? OK maybe a little.........
