I've got a set of Super Locks that I've had for a couple years now and I love them, but they are starting to not want to lock anymore. When I release the actuator buttons after put the post into the strap button, they don't want to go back into the original position. Not sure if the spring is getting old or if it needs some lubricant or if it's just time for new ones.

Let me know if you have any insight or advice.

Mods, feel free to move this if it's not in the appropriate place.

Thanks.

I avoid spraying WD40 near music gear... it's messy and can damage some finishes.

You can buy "3-in-one oil" at hardware, grocery and department stores. It has a neat little applicator wand and can be applied a single drop at a time. Bonus: it is less than $5 and will last months, if not years.

My 2-cents.

1. Clean them out. They are sealed, so not much to do, but you might be able to brush some mojo out of the button area. Don't use WD-40, it's a sealant/preservative, not a lubricant. Get some 3-in-1 lube, or dry moly lube.

2. I had a few sets of these things fail, and they manifested the failure exactally as you describe. I found that the top is only held on with two rivets (seen from below). If they rivets start to let go, due to improper expansion, the top starts to pop off, and they fail to lock. I was able to save one set by re-expanding the rivets with a light hammer and nail. A few pair went into the garbage. You might want to do a close visual, comparing a lock that works to the one that doesn't, and look for mechanical seperation.

check to make sure there is nothing in the channel where the ball bearing locks into inside the strap buttons themselves. usually some level of lubrication is needed periodically on the mechanism.

I like that the super locks require two fingers to open, , though I have wondered about the longevity of the mechanism.

Dump some high-end scotch on them, it will clean out the stale beer...
