I was looking over my guitar and noticed a very small surface scratch. Just looking at it it doesn't even seem deeper than the clear coating. Still, horribly annoying. Does Ernie ball repare things like this? I'll post pictures in an hour it's hardly noticeable but it IS there and I need it gone. Anyone have any knowledge/advice on this matter? Your input would be GREATLY appreciated. My guitar is my most prized possession and I've already had arrangements made for it to be buried with me when I pass. I am not kidding.

Many thanks.

No, MM will not do finish work (unless you're sending the entire body back to be re-finished/replaced).

Best advice is to just live with it. If it's a small scratch and not down to the wood you might be able to buff it out.

My advice is to embrace the dings. When you're buried together, you don't want it to make you look bad. ;)

Alright, listen. I get that guitars over time have a greater chance of accumulating scratches. I realize it's not something out of the ordinary. However, I've had my guitar for a little over a year now and can say that until recently it has been in PRISTENE condition. There was not a single scratch or blemish to be found. I made sure of it. I recently did do something with it I never do, travel with it and not only that, let someone else play it. That person being my father. I'm not accusing him of doing it I'm just saying that it's a possibility and I wouldn't even be upset at him if it was him. I simply came here to get some knowledge on whether or not there are products out there that are known to work. With that being said Im almost ready to purchase polish I found with a google search. Can someone please take a look and tell me if this product would be safe for the JPX guitar finish. Again, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I justed ordered it. No I don't have any other guitar. I'll have to do more research on it prior to use or maybe hell just reply by the time I get it.

This is funny. No offense my friend...just have too much whiskey in me. Are you going to treat every single scratch, ding, dent like this for the next 20 years? It's part of it man. Believe ME! I keep and try my absolute BEST to keep my guitars as clean and damage free as possible...but it is inevitable that at some point you will see wear and tear on the guitar if you actually play it. I'm sure that the black hardware will start to wear off at some point where there is contact with your hands...you gonna replace the the whole trem because of that? Kick you OCD in the a** and just play the hell out of that guitar.

I'd recommend the aforementioned Guitar Scratch Remover...this stuff really works great!
Spud was able to treat some rather severe scratches with satisfactory results so I gave it a try as well, it's hands down the best product for treating scratches I ever used.

I'm gonna look if I can find Spud's thread on it but I'm sure he'll chime in when he notices you thread.

EDIT: Found the thread...here's the link!

This stuff is really good, I've used it safely on EBMMs and guitars with nitro and all came out well. But before expectations are raised, if you can feel the scratch with a fingernail then you wont be able to buff it out....

Devin as already explained if the scratch is deep enough for you to feel no scratch remover is going to remove it. Products like that are mainly for light surface swirls from picking. If it is going to drive you crazy you can have it repaired but a Poly finish unlike a Nitro repair is never going to be invisible, and sometimes if the guy is not really good it could stick out more. If you bought the guitar as a collectable, or to be a case queen, I can understand how you sound. But if you play the guitar then I think Rob has given the best advice. The more time you spend playing the more wear is going to show up on the guitar, no matter how careful you are. If you say that you plan on being buried with it, let it age with you. Damn wait until your hairline starts receding lol.

.... but don't give up hope!!

I found that when I took the white paint off my JP6 mystic dream (see link in my sig)- the top coat is pretty thick and you have something to work with. The scratch in my AL was pretty deep but not down to the wood. In this case I was able to "feather" the repair using the scratch remover and the result is bloody amazing. If it's through the top coat then you'll have to live with it.

A picture speaks a thousand words!!
