Well, a Swedish guy who I've only met once at a music show has shipped me his own Blue Dawn Bongo 5HSp bass at no cost on loan for "about six months" so I can try out a 5er while I save up for my next bongo fix. I didn't ask him to do this, it was a completely unsolicited offer.

Some of you know this bass, Jack owned her before she went to Sweden (like so many of Jack's basses). Here she is, arrived yesterday:

Never played an HS or done much with piezo's so I've had plenty of chance to fiddle around and even tried her out at band practice this evening, but more on that later.

Now, I know he also seems to have shipped some of his dirty washing in the case for me to take care of by way of payment but this strikes me as an incredibly trusting thing to do and I would like to state here for the record that this is one of the most generous things I've some across for a long long time, especially to someone known mainly through an internet forum. What I've since learnt though, is that this sort of thing seems to go on all the time behind the scenes here. It's really quite amazing.

So, thank you Magnus, you are a gentleman and I deeply appreciate this. I promise to keep her well wonder-wiped and in tune at all times and return her to you in perfect condition... that is if you really want her back.

Of course, this could be one of those puppy dog sales I've read about recently :D

That is awesome! I love random acts of kindness. Major kudos to Magnus. Beautiful instrument too. I am curious to know your opinions on the HSp too. :)

Again... I love hearing about this kind of stuff. I really love seeing the amazing kindness, and selflessness of the human race, and MM players too.

Magnus by way of third hand inspiration, if you ever need a favor from the depths of East TN, USA... you let me know!

Awesome! We really do put a lot of trust in our imaginary internet friends sometimes.

In a similar vein, if any of our German, Austrian or Swiss forumites have a spare black/ebony LE, feel free to ship it Downunder ;-)

Magnus is a wonderful friend that I have never met. I hope that changes someday soon. I mean, I hope that I meet him, not that he becomes a very bad friend.

Lots of cool stuff goes on around here. Sometimes behind the scenes. But it's part of what keeps me here.

Enjoy that bass. It's a bit of a knob farm, but it IS a good one.

Hopefully i'll have a chance to meet him at the forum bash next year along with a few more of you guys!

Beautiful story!
(And the bass isn't to bad either ;-)

I love to see that there are still a lot of people out there who trust each other.

Reminds me of how i got my first Stingray.

Me and some that guy i've never met decided to swap basses for a few weeks. He wantet to see what a Ric's like, I was curious about his Stingray.
After a few weeks we settled in a phonecall that we won't swap back.

And they lived happily ever after.

Glad to see it arrived safely=)
And just for the record, the t-shirts are actually clean and meant to be worn by you Neil:) One is a Rockheart tee (my band) the other is a Twang (guitarshop) tee, I think Jack has one just like it.
Now I agree with jack that it's a bit of a knob farm, but I hope you can wrap your head around that because it is a great bass:)
Enjoy!

I always thought strummer was a very nice guy, even more so now with this kind gesture.

Nice to see these things happening from time to time.

a bit of latin...

Also I'd like to point out that Magnus as a name derives from the latin and it is translated as such:

magnus

magnopere magnus opere : very, very much.
magnus maior maximus : large, great, important.

Pete, you've looked after me and taken care of me for two years in a row, and I'm really grateful for the oppoprtunity to bash with you brits!
Of course I'll swing by S&T if I'm ever in your neck of the woods, and if not we'll just party again next year!
