Hi guys!

Just bought yesterday EB Coated 5 set of strings and prepare my Sterling for a restrung!

That's why I changed my habit and after looong time removed all strings from the bass, wiped fret-board with EB Wonder Wipes and back side of unfinished neck too, so here are some photos:

Pics are shotted in my bedroom with dimmed light without flash, so take it with reserve, it was pretty dark there!

However, I hope that Coated set will last twice longer than regular RSB set of strings, maybe even longer? In the evening I'll restrung the bass!
My band's wedding gigs season is approaching, starting this weekend with some party gigs and than after Easter, ta-da ...it's wedding time in my country! :) (money, money...)

Wish me luck to collect some money for a new Bongo! :p

They have become my favorite strings since they came out, and honestly, they just feel right. I have them strung on 3 basses, and even gave 2 sets to friends to try out. They were both weary of "coated" strings, but changed their opinion afterward...

Well, first impressions:

Sound is slightly mellower instead regular Slinky ones, tuning is better, after tuned once, leave it for couple a minutes, tuned them one more time and played about half an hour and there was no detune at all, great tension for sure! :)

I've noticed better magnetic influence instead regulars (that could be subjective after old "dead" strings), and this more mellow tone sounds like "burned in" regulars after one or two gigs played and that's not bad at all, I mean they are ready for use right away, don't need to "burn them in" playing at home before gig, if You guys understand me what I mean?

I'll try to count approximately working hours of this coated set and keep You informed about that matter!

This last regular set of EB RSB strings lasted about 60 -100 real working hours of hard gig playing time!
It's difficult to count it, but I was trying to count in my head all gigs and practice I've done since last restrung!

Great job Ernie Ball!

Brilliant move keko. I put EB coated rounds on my Sterling and love the mellow broken-in kinda sound that you get almost immediately. Seems to be staying that way now for quite a few weeks so far.

And as for saving for the Bongo, well, you may know that I have been making payments on one since December. I hope it arrives soon...

I personally think that if you can only own 2 Music Man bass (Gosh is that even possible!) then the best two would be a Sterling and Bongo.

The Sterling because it has one of the most aggressive sounds.

The Bongo because it has such a deep fat sound.

Very different and both very cool.

Slightly OT: I think in that case, the best two are a fretted and a fretless StingRay... nothing beats the original ;)

Back to topic: I've still not managed to put mine on... sigh... just don't want to throw away a perfectly fine Slinky Set for the sake of trying something new.

Giving strings out gratis?

You sir are a good friend to have! :D

Thanks...I actually had the strings up in the for sale thread, but decided to pull them down and give them to a couple of local guys who wanted to try them out.

I won twelve sets in the coated string contest, strung them on three basses (DDIIsr5, SR5, 6string), gave two away, 1 partially given away/sold, and 6 sets to use over the next 2 or 3years being that I don't change strings that often.

Strung my 25th with a coated super slinky set and love the tamed but full of life tones that these string give. Plan on putting them on my Bongos as time goes on.

Wasn't there a contest for pictures using EB coated strings at the end of last year? I seem to remember that the winner would receive a MM bass of their choice. Does anyone know if a forumite knucklhead won?

I thought that was only for the USA citizens!

Edit: I have a gig tonight, can't wait to set up the details with bass preamp, yesterday having a sound check, ...rockin', killer tone!
Used single H set flat, single bridge coil 1 with lots of bass boost, mid boost, treble cut, and all coils with bass cut, slightly added treble an middle! We are playing through 3 kW PA support for about 200 people private party!

I swapped over to the new enamel coated supers, early days yet by I do find them a bit mellow, but they do take a good beating, like most here I think a bit more gigging time with them is required, but initialy, rather impressed.

I just strung up my fretless Bongo with the EB coated strings and love them. I needed to hear a little more definition in the harmonics from the flats and the coated strings reproduce the harmonics nicely while still providing the smooth feel of the flats.
