My warwick corvette 6 was built with Seymour Duncan Basslines soapbar pickups and a 2 band MEC preamp. I bought the Seymour Duncan Basslines 3-band tone circuit STC-3a (preamp only) and had it installed. It was a huge difference. Not only was it just an improvement going from 2 to 3 band eq, but the dynamics of each eq are much greater. It also has a pull up function on the volume control that enables a "slap contour". It is a great modification.

I think this is the same preamp that is in the Basslines MM replacement pickup and preamp kit, SMB5S. Here is the link:

Seymour Duncan Basslines MM pickup and preamp

it is towads the bottom of the page.

I have toyed with the idea of putting this in my SR5. Has anyone tried this or heard how it sounds in person?

If you feel you must mess with a good thing already, I don't think you can go wrong with Bartolini electronics.
