Hi everybody,

I need your help on this: my bass player has an almost 20-year old Stingray Bass.
It's the four string model with 3-band EQ.

The problem is that he does not like the color, I think the color is called 'teal green'.
It is a see-thru finish, not a solid color.

His idea is to have someone take off the finish and then leave the body as is.
Maybe put some oil and wax on it but nothing else, no re-finish planned.

I told him better not to do it but rather maybe try and sell the instrument and replace it with a Stingray in another color.

What do you think?

It would look a lot better if it had a finish on it, especially after some playing time. A good refinish would cost close to half the value of the bass (over here, anyway) so he would be best to trade or sell it.

Plus, you never know if the wood grain underneath the finish is going to be as nice looking as the wood grain the boys at the factory pick out when they build a natural finish axe. I agree - I'd sell it and get buy a new or used natural finish MM.

Ah, I was kind of joking. It's actually Billy or StingRay7181, his username. He used to love teal.

About your friend: How about him saving up some money and buying a used bass from the US? I mean, now is the time to do it with the current value of the dollar and everything....:)

Always the same with us six-string slingers: we crack the jokes, but don't get 'em

Might be a good option! I will suggest that to him!

Maybe he can make Billiam a happy man afterwards... ;)

Thanks, Bro!
