Just took the pickguard off my bongo five. Its awsome looking! Sort of like the look of an old jazz bass with the guard off. Especially if you really like the color i strongly recomend it. unless you play pick

Glad you like the look, but it's a matter of preference.

To me, one of the most beautiful aspects of the Bongo design is the way all the various curves complement one another....

- The curve of the control knob placement
- The curve of the horn contours and the way they blend into the body
- The curve of the body itself (and the fact that it's a compound curve, not a slab...a flat-topped Bongo would be hideous)
- The curve of the pickguard
- The curves of the headstock, which echo and compliment those of the body and horns

The Bongo is all about swooping curves. Ever see the pic of the prototype with the fistful of knobs laid out in a staggered grid? It's a jarring, angular visual element.

What makes it all work so well IMHO is that none of these curves are identical, and none are parallel. See the way the curve of the control knobs fits in between the curve of the pickguard and the edge of the body without following either one? Sweet.

To me, the pickguard is essential to the visual appeal of the bass.

If I ever get a Bongo, I would pull the pickguard in no time. I like on other EB/MM models, though.

Mmmm. . . . Blue Dawn Bongo with no pickguard. . . yeah.

I prefer the best of both worlds with the clear pickguards. That way you can show off the finish, yet still have protection and it does not look out of place.

Wow that black naked bongo is awesome! My bass is sapphire black. I don't think i'm going to put the screws back in. The color won't match anyway. Dave Larue's bass is great. I'd love to have that sucker! I wouldn't care if it way a ton!!! I'm young and i love TONE!!!!!

Yes, oh yes, thats totally bada$$. I like the fact that the screws are replaced and filling the holes too.

This is one of the reasons I love Stealth Bongos. They look like they have no pickguard.
