So I am thinking I'd like the freedom of a wireless set-up after watching my guitar-player cousin prance-around on the dance floor while I continued to tangle my 20' cord!

I've not done any real "homework" yet, but I recall hearing about the need to pay attention to the unit's ability to handle bass frequencies (?).

Looking for a good, solid reliable unit to use with my Sterling and Bongo - Any comments or experience, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :D

Well there's so many Great ones now im sure, But we still use the High End 1 rack Space Shure's, double A's that Last for a good clean 12 hours.

Perfectly clean, No drops nothing, Holds a 135 B string with amazing clarity. So that would be my call if you had $2500 kicking around.

I don't have $2500 around but I do have a Shure SLX system (UHF) and it is better than anything I have had.

Sure and Most guys don't but my point was depending on how tech ya want too get, For me it has to sound as good as a Cord or it's not worth the Battery it'll use.

But im sure that Shure you got the UHF is probably great.

Multi Channel works great if you have everyone in the band wireless, but getting back to high end systems, see the one's we use, you can change the freqency
up too like i think 140 different ones and away you go, no banging into someone elses,
In other words No Spinal Tap Action happening, lol

It looks to me like the 2000 only gets down to 100 hertz at the 3000 only gets down to 70 hertz. Is that low enough?

Not for me it ain't! Nowhere near it! What's a B string? around 30hz!!! So, even a low A would be mildly affected by this kind of cutoff in response. But, it is only the -3dB point, so you can compensate for it I guess.

I've asked a lot of manufacturers at a trade fair recently, and most of them responded with a blank, vacant look on their face... they'd obviously never been asked about the frequency response of their wireless systems.

Keep in mind they are mostly designed for vocals and guitar, which tend to have a very limited range. Remember also that you have to ensure that both the transmitter and receiver have a good frequency response - no good having one but not the other!

So anyway...

AKG were the only ones I spoke to who seemed to give a crap about frequency response. The GB 40 guitar bug is 40-20k, pretty good. Match it with the SR 40 receiver and you're in business. Step up to the 400 series and get down to 35hz... but is it worth the money? I don't think so.

Sennheiser are also worth checking out.

Most of the others are pretty poor.

Now this sounds awesome - I'd love to be the position to require this kind of system, but unfortunately the half-a-dozen charitable gigs a year won't justify the of investment. :p

Thanks Ritch - I like what I've been reading about the Shure PGX and the SLX systems and they seem right in my price range...

Point well taken re: the frequency response - definitely something to compare and evaluate when making my decision. :)
