If you've ever been there, vote your voice!
It's ANON!

This poll is as moronic as anything I've ever seen at Talkbass. Only an idiot would paint an entire website with 40,000+ members with one brush.

If you go there looking for moronic posts, you'll find plenty. If you go there looking for insightful posts, you'll find plenty. Of course, what you are looking for says as much about the seeker...

The same could be said for this forum, too.

Oh, there's drivel. Just like any other forum on the internet.

As for "ouch"--believe me, I had more to say, but I chose not to say it....

Yes, there's a fair bit of crap on TB, but I suspect that the proportion of kids is higher. There's a lack of maturity. Still, there are good posts from time to time.

What I was thinking...

What I was also thinking...

I THINK THAT HE WAS KIDDING A LITTLE....relax all forums are great ours is just better....

What I was thinking as well...

Didn't think so... ;)

this forum is great... it is the only forum that I don't go on massive rants against mindless idiots. So is kind of relaxing.

now touch me.

TB is what it is. its a huge forum with a lot of people logging in and saying stuff. when you have that many members you get a lot of misinformed people, a lot of mean people etc etc but you still get cool folks. it just gets overlooked cuz its easier to remember something outrageous than something "normal".

also the the fact that there's no manufacturer running the show you get rabid fans of one maker, then some of the other maker and on n on... so people argue. its not like were always nice when people say stuff about non mm basses right?

anywho... it is what it is. i check in sometimes. fact is that i have 8 basses. 6 of them are MMs and the other 2 are project basses (one is my first bass modded to hell and the seond i built from parts)... so technically i only own MM and "arin" basses. LoL. im a big fan of MM and, really, theyre the only basses i care to buy and talk about... so this place is perfect for me. if i had a more diverse collection i think then maybe id get into tb but thsi place has the right topics and folks for me.

and FWIW id rather eat my eyeballs than be a mod there. LoL

...

TalkBass was cool about 6 years ago, when it first started. I remember being one of the first batch of folks who signed up... I even contributed an article every now and then early on. The electric bass boards got old a long time ago with their pointless wank-talk. I just got tired of posting a thoughtful question re: amps, basses, strings, and getting stupid "SWR (or insert any other brand you wish) suks... u should dump that cr@p" responses. Nothing remotely logical or helpful came out of anything. The double bass side is much more mature (i wonder why) and is the only reason I visit TB anymore, and even then my visits are few and far between. 'nuff said.

I visit TB because it gives me insight into other viewpoints.

Hell, what am I going to convince you guys to do? Buy Music Man instruments?

The signal to noise ratio is not as high there as I'd like it to be, but (a) I'm old and cranky and (b) they don't depend on me to define their mission statement.

Sure, sure, I'll bitch and gripe occasionally about TB, but I still go there and I still post and I still have a lot of friends there, so there you go.

I still get a lot of great info from TB. But it takes me a lot longer to sift through the BS. There are a couple of moderators there who are extremely knowledgeable and rather unbiased. I think it's sort of like television. I only turn on certain channels and tune out the others.

There are 3 bass forums I regularly post on: here, TB and DP. I lilke the EB site because I love EB basses and like the comraderie.

As a noob bass forumite, I learned a ton, I mean a ton about basses on TB. There's a wide diversity of posters on TB and it makes for a great forum, IMO. You get a question about your EH bassballs on one forum then find out what type of tubes work best in your Kern preamp on another. Not to mention it's a great place to buy, sell and trade gear with little of the worries of Evilbay. TB is much younger and less mature, but there are some great characters on there and always people willing to help you out. I've got a GTG going for us uppper midwest folks on TB and the response has been great. Anyone who trashes TB hasn't spent enough time there.

DP is obviously a little more what I would call "raunchy eclectic". Not as many noobie threads, but hey, we were all noobies once, too. I like the Pit for its AL, AC, SSC and N. As here, lots of great characters and intelligent conversation.

All 3 are A+ in my book.
