Thank you Golem. What strings are you liking for
your various Fretless basses? I currently have
La Bella tapewounds on my SR4FL.
The LaBella plastic wound are one of my faves
for basses that allow plastic. I've even tried
the new "white" ones, which proved to be very
different from the black ... it's NOT just color !
Right now they're on an all-maple PJ. Almost
too rockin' for my taste, but only "almost" !
You ask about my VARIOUS FLs. Well "various"
is a huge understatement. Acoarst I like EBMM
cobalt flats, they're miraculous. Another magic
string is the GHS "Brite Flats" which are not flat
wound. They're compressed or ground down RW
strings, and sound like RW with a bit less growl,
meaning noticeably more growl than other flats.
There's a whole different flat from Thomastik if
you dig rich-but-mellow. It's kinda sorta like an
orchestral string in bass guitar lengths. I love it.
I've never played in loud aggressive bands. It's
definitely NOT for those who do.
Well ... I got more than 30 FL basses with very
many string types, so I gotta leave it at that
