i got an amp that just kills everything else i've ever tried.............but it does only have 2 channels. the tonebone is the only thing that blends in naturally ........giving me a third channel of sorts.
also ....t.c. elctronics has a new overdrive contraption comming out. kinda curious to try THATout too.......
I use a Fulltone FD-2 (I've had one of these on my board for 10 years now) and a Fulltone OCD (a fantastic new pedal). I also have an original TS 808 pedal that I've extensively A/B'd with the Full-Drive 2, and the Ibanez pedal has been sitting in a drawer for about 10 years now... In the "tube pedal" category I have owned a Matchless Hotbox, a Mesa V-Twin, an SIB Varidrive, and a few others, and found them all wanting - ime, a tube in a pedal doesn't necessarily equate to good tone... ymmv, of course...
I think distortion pedals are even more subjective than guitars or amps. There are probably 20 or 30 pedals that someone somewhere will tell you is the holy grail. To further confuse matters, these people aren't bozos, they're good players, it's just that everyone has their thang.
Everyone seems to love the new Fulltone OCD, but I couldn't stand it. It had this buzz at the end of notes that just made me want to puke. But everyone else loves it....different strokes.
I've been through about 15 or 20 od/distortion pedals. For light OD/crunch, the Red Snapper is bliss. For higher gain distortion, I like a SPF Greenline. Last night after our singer left, we jammed on a blues thang and that Greenline was just nasty good. It also has lots of switches...you can get a lot of sounds out of it. weird little new funky company, I like their stuff.
I agree with Jimi....because a pedal has a tube in it doesn't mean it sounds good. I've had a couple of Tonebones and the Maxon one with the tube and neither have floated my boat. The tonbone has a processed quality I don't like...it almost sounds modelled to me. But again, a lot of people like 'em....
Not to try and hijack, I've also got an AL and have been following the suggestions, but has anyone here tried the Visual Sound stuff - either the Route 66 or Jeckyl/Hyde? I've read some good things but haven't seen any near me to play.
