OK, I know I either need a JP or a JP7. I'm getting a base one for sure (plain headstock, no piezo) but I cant decide to get the 7th string.

I dont play music that requires a 7 but I have been wanting to get into lower tunings and a 7 will make that possible without an alternate setup on a guitar I need for standard stuff too.

I have been playing Petrucci's music (and my new originals are sounding alot like him too) all most exclusively for the last 6 months and I don't see an immediate end. Not to mention that the JP is my favorite guitar ever made.

Feel free to post color comments as well!

Well voted 6 just not into the 7 string thing, but man if your going to get a JP the piezo is a must, to me an intregal part of one, worth the extra $, good luck.

I'd go with a 7 since you already have two 6's. I also agree that a JP without the piezo isn't the same. Most people that I've seen that get basic JP's regret not getting the piezo. It makes the JP that much more versatile.

True, on already having sixes, and so tue on the piezo, I have had piezo's on many different models, and it fits the JP the best.

Well, I'm all for JP7, and, against the others' opinion, I'm not that all for the piezo. Granted, it's great, but even the "simplest" standard JP7 is a dream come true. But I'm a 7-string addict anyway.

BTW, I do not use it only for the typical heavy downtuned stuff, but also for everything from hard'n'heavy through blues to christian music. You can use the 7-th string musically in any genre, not just in metal.

Try 7 - You probably won't regret it

I'd go for a 7-string... and not worry one bit about the missing piezo. I am yet to hear a standalone piezo system sound good - I'd rather stick to clean electric with a dab of compression, chorus and possibly reverb... Sounds just as acoustic to me as a piezo (i.e. not very), but is MUCH more pleasing to these two ears.

Cheers

I say 7.

The more and more I play my 7 string, I feel like there's less and less available to me on my 6's.

You could always get the 6 string and with the difference in price of the 7 string, you could buy a drop tune pedal for the lower tuning. (the Morpheus pedal rocks!)
