I know why Steve has the middle pup where it is on the SMY2D. In fact I have it lowered to just below the surface of the pickguard so it cleans up nice without the volume knob rolled back. But I never use switch position 2 at all. There just is no audible difference to the lowered single pup added to the humbucker- at least to my ears.

I've been toying around with the idea for a while now - is possible with the 4-pole switch in the guitar, if it would be possible to wire the middle pup as a coil in series with one of the humbucker coils (the HB would be split), for another switching option.

It would either be a lower output humbucking configuration if the coil was lowered as it is atm. Or if I wanted to raise it to the height of the other coils it would simply be a humbucker that is essentially one spot forward. It would mean a warmer HB tone with more deffinition. The middle switch position could be left as single pup only.

The current 4-pole switch the guitar comes with is currently only using 2 poles so I'm thinking it can be done but I wanted to ask someone who knows before "experimenting"

I'm pretty sure I can do it in a parallel configuration. Series makes it a bit tougher.

Am I just dreaming?

Thanks

Hello
I spent quite a lot of time changing the pickups height on my Morse. At the beginning, I was using the Morse's settings but after a lot of experimentations, I am now using a different configuration. My bridge single coil is now the higher pickup (that means it is the closer to the strings). The HB are quite low (especially the neck pickup). When the bridge HB and the bridge SC are together, the sound is really different of the sound of the bridge HB alone.

The combination of the single and humbucker is relatively subtle...but I think he mostly uses it with gain and volume turned down to do the chicken pickiin stuff. I recently added a push pull pot that splits the humbucker and neck which gives me 9 different options now. I like the two humbuckers split...basically the outer coils of each humbucker, and then I also like the split humbucker with the middle single in position 2. Very simple mod, and the split positions actually sound really good.
