Hi everyone,
Just a quick question, I cleaned my TG luke neck today and applied some lemon oil (actually I think I might have applied too much) and notice a few frets sitting up in the middle of the frets not at the ends (if you know what I mean)
Maybe thay have always been like and I only notice now because I paid a bit of attention to the neck whilst cleaning but what my question is

If the Lemon Oil caused the frets to lift a little wouldnt that mean that the guitar would be buzzing etc and I would notice, because the guitar has no buzz whatsoever and plays the way it always has.

Would it be possible for the frets to lift so quickly after applying the Lemon Oil

Prob being over the top as usual but thought I would ask

Can you take a photograph of it Davy? Try checking it out with a straight edge as that will confirm one way or the other. It might just be an optical illusion because if some Frets have lifted you will get fret buzz. Assuming of course that they have all not lifted which I believe is almost impossible to happen.

Hi again,
Def have too much oil on fretboard, fingers feel all oily after playing.
Guitar is playing fine though with no buzz, just feels very slippery and I spent ages today buffing and cleaning the neck ????

Won't be doing that again in a hurry
Will it dry out itself or do I need to do anything else.
Will still take a few pics of the frets and let you all see and you can give me your verdicts

Davy.

They "only" looked like they were rising, due to the fact the fretboard was "finally" cleaned. Ya know, like when you clean your room, it looks like the room is bigger!

If it's not buzzing, you may want to lower your action a tad.

I agree with TNT that the cleaning gave off the illusion. I would seriously take the strings off and get a polishing cloth and put some elbow grease into removing all that excess oil as you over did it. When oiling your neck you should just put your index finger under a cloth soak the tip and that should be enough to do the whole board. Let it stay on a few minutes and then with a dry cloth remove all the excess.

Hey everyone,
Neck dried out quite a bit after i cleaned with a cloth and bit of elbow grease, so here are a few pics as promised,
First fret seems to be lifting in the middle (pics dont do it justice but will give you an idea)

Trying to judge from a photo is never easy at the best of times and without seeing your instrument in person I won't give you a definitive answer. Which is why the standard tune around here should be...

If any of the frets lifted you could indeed have significant buzz in some places. As the guitar plays well I'm sure you're in the clear. Bet you'll never use that much oil again, eh?! :D
