The Axis Model History?

So what is the history of this guitar?
EVH would have us believe he is the creator of all things to rival God himself and curer of all diseases known to man but I know the axis was about before he showed up at the EB factory.

I've seen photos with him holding one that said Axis, so was this a planned release before Eddie appeared?

I would love to hear the story about how this guitar came about, the ideas behind the body shape etc etc.

Axis was actually the working title of the Albert Lee model...
