That's a nice looking, sounding AL. Hey, was he just using his pick or was it pick and fingers, hence roll your fingers?????

francric,

I believe he said he was picking and using his finger, in this order:

pick 4th string, play 2nd string with middle finger
pick 3rd string, play 1st string with ring finger

What's he doing when he comes back down the scale and does he pick on the upstroke or down when he's coming back ?

Just wondering ?

not entirely sure Spud BUT do feel free to get a hold of Mitch through either our YouTube account or @ OVRDRVN.COM :)

and yes GWD, it's us alright :D , thanks for watching and for sharing the finds!

again, our iTunes podcast downloads have a better quality video as YouTube's compression is a little harsh but I think they don't look too bad

Quick revision:

pick 4th string, play 2nd string with middle finger
pick 3rd string, hammer next note on 3rd string, play 1st string with ring finger

For the life of me, Spud, I can't tell what the picking is. I think he's using downstrokes with the pick during the ascending part of the scale, but ???

Yeah I know - I'm just trying to master the banjo roll type picking technique.
Whenever I see it demo'd on a vid the guitarist usually says something like "yeah it's real easy, you just blahh blah blah" without breaking it down to it's nuts and bolts.

I remember seeing Zakk Wyldes "Pentatonic Hardcore" - brilliant playing and another demo of finger picking rolling techniques, but he may as well as been saying "Look what I can do - you won't be able to play it though" There was just no explanation of the technique.

That you tube clip is very good and hats off to Mitch for demoing it.

Psychicpet,
Thanks for sharing... Very cool stuff. I'll have to dig around a little to find more of Mitch's playing. Very inspiring.

Hey Fred, +1 on that.

I like him a lot too! Very natural in front of the camera - has good presentation skills.
