I know, depending on if it's a 6 or 7, I always play a specific song as a kind of "Christening" of my instruments. Just wondering, maybe I'm weird, but do you guys/girls do the same thing?

For instance, the first thing I played on my JP6 was Glasgow Kiss and on my 7, it was This Dying Soul's main riff. I seem to do that on any subsequent guitars I try and probably will continue to do the same songs.

EDIT: Tuning doesn't count! We all know that's a no-brainer! :p

Just a fun thread!:)

Once I actually take the guitar to my house, it's "Outside" by Staind. I started on my dad's old acoustic, and as an 11 year old at the time, that was the first thing I played once I got my first piece of crap electric. It's just kind of stuck since then, and is my way of introducing a new axe to the rest of the family.

Interstate Love Song is the first song I break out when I'm trying out/playing a new guitar or amp. If I can go from the clean opening, into the volume swell, do the 1/2 step C# bend and release on the B string in-tune, and have the following big open chords maintain their clarity and punch, I know I'm onto a winner.

Plus, it's bloody fun to play :D !!

I guess it would depend on the type of guitar I've bought. For example, in the store I played "Working Man" by Rush on the ASS (which is typical when I'm trying out a humbucker guitar). I got to finish the song when I got it home ;)

When I first plugged in the Silo, it was "Empty Arms" by SRV (typical for when I try out a single coil guitar).

I've been using these two songs to test new (or potential new) guitars for at least 5 years now.

For me the test songs are : Simple Simon (Steve Morse), Battle Lines (Steve Morse) and The Introduction (Steve Morse also ...).
Ok, sometimes I will play 2112 or the main riff of La Villa Strangiato (Rush).

Well, depending on a mood/setting/guitar:

Scales and randome runs

Pull me under/Another day/Metropolis (Dream Theater)

Shine on You crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd)

Solos, bits and pieces, noodling around

In other words, I don't seem to have a standard procedure...
