Hello, every one. I bought my first MM guitar in 2007, and I am in love with it ever since. How ever, as I was playing it for a long time, mainly it has been mine main axe for this time, i started to hear something that was bugging me for some time. First i though it was just a small crack, but when i removed the floyd rose today i was surpiresed to see 2 big cracks beneath the tremolo. See in the video.

I have one more question and i am wondering what is the profile for the old Steve Morse model with floyd? Are they all equipped with these floyds that are just a bit over the Volume knob. The height is what it bothers me the most, because there is really no action with these tremolos.

I am really not a floyd kind a type player but since i got it with IT, I don't want any of these unpleasantness. Thank you all for your help.

Well here's my limited opinion. The guitar is 13 years old and it's been a main guitar of a player for looooong time. I think it's reasonable to expect some fair wear after all that time. I also guess I don't understand what you mean by no action. The Floyd can be adjusted to sit higher by simply raising the two pole pieces in which it sits. The action is very adjustable. As for the finish - it wouldn't bother me on a guitar I played heavily for 13 years, but you're not me, so I can't really speak to that issue.

By action i mean the space. You are very limited to do any sort of floyd playing.

I think he's saying there's not much room to push the floyd bar down (lower pitch) before the bar hits the toggle switch or knobs.

Agreed, customer svc is the best option, but you may want to raise the to large black trem posts to get the floyd a little bit off the body, to avoid chipping the wood and the cracking sound. Not sure about the 6th string screw question though.

Good luck, I've had my EVH for 14-15 years and I can relate to wanting my baby in tip top shape!

In my limited opinion ... if your trem posts are set too low, your bridge is going to scrape against the finish, at least that's what it looks like from here.

However if you want a professional opinion (and not those from a bunch of hacks), contact the customer service folks and they can help you out.

Btw- as of last year, the trems on all the Morse models (standard and Y2D) float.

Yes, your dealer is certainly wrong. If you ordered a new one, it will float.

Just an example, check out the following link for Guitar Center and the Y2Ds with the floyd. Look Closely and you will see that they are all routed to float :D.

I must have missed how a 2007 guitar is 13 years old, but maybe that's the new math! haha

On a serious note, call or email Customer Service on Monday. To me it looks as if the bridge is too low and is scraping on the body (like beej said). A good setup will get your guitar back where it needs to be.

D'oh! That's not new math, that's old man memory loss!!! I thought it said 1997 when I read through and then responded. Sheesh, like the body going kaput wasn't enough.

Its the Floyd touching the body because its too low, and it's chipping the finish off under the front of it.
I think the best way to fix it would be to have the neck shimmed a little bit, and then raise the Floyd too (you'll have to if you shim the neck, otherwise the strings will sit on the frets) It should fix your problem with the fine tuners/locking bolt on the Floyd too.
If you do this though, the bridge will float a little bit because you need to raise it.

Try to not give advice other than contact customer service when someone wants you to fix their instrument sight unseen.

This is the best advice one can give you, the Ernie Ball Customer Service is really KILLER!

Rock on!

We should have a Customer Service Rep. in a super hero costume, with super hero powers, fly in and and help customers solve their problem.

Oh wait, they already have that. :D
