Okay, so I'm one of those guys who have owned and played a fair amount of MM basses. I'm not even in the same neighborhood as some of the people here, people who have owned or currently own hundreds of Stingrays....but I started with MM basses back in the 70s, took a break during the 80s and came back home in the 90s.

I have owned and/or played many.

- pre-EB Stingrays. Bought my first one in 1977. Have owned five or six of these.

- Stingray 5s. Probably seven or eight of these, including line and unlined fretless and piezo equipped models and on and on.

- EBMM "modern era" Stingrays. Even I don't know how many of these have passed through Camp Bovine, but let's guess....maybe ten.

- Sterlings. Even though I am currently Sterling-Free, I still think these basses have the best production neck in the business. I think I've had three or four of these, mostly sparkle finishes.

- Bongos. Well, okay, I'm down from a high of five Bongos to maybe three, but I've tried to sample each configuration minus the piezo and I've finally admitted that I'm not a fretless guy so none of that either.

But I still think about all the basses I haven't really tried.

I've never owned a 20th Anniversary Stingray.
I've never owned one of those graphite necked NAMM Anniversary Stingrays, even though I dig silver more than any other color and I love graphite necks.
Never owned a Cutlass or a Sabre, either.

So the question is - what Musicman bass haunts you?

Single H Bongo. If I had the cash on hand, I could exorcise that demon. Anybody willing to trade for a SC/H Bongo4?

Ack! Jack!

Now you have me seriously picking a color and figuring out how to scrape up the money for a H Bongo. Maybe I'll stop in my LMS tomorrow and place the order. They only need half down and I should be able to scrape up the other half in 3 months when the damn thing finally gets here. Ack!

BTW, I'm thinking blue pearl, teal pearl or medallion gold. Anybody got a favorite they wanna vote for?

the Bongo haunts me ... ive played a bunch of these at stores etc and definately dig 'em. im a huge Sterling fan and have had enough experience with the Bongo to know that it will not dethrone the Sterling as my #1 ... that coupled with the facts that im ignorant to on board EQs and just cant get over the look are the reasons that i dont own one.

now with the 2 pup Sterling about to be orderable i doubt ill get one soon but im sure that i eventually will ... especially if i ditch a few of my axes that just sit there looking pretty and get no action

I just had to stop myself from equating the single hummer Bongo to my long-time carry weapon, the Glock 19. It doesn't have the stopping power of some other stuff, but with my military issue magazines, I never needed the stoppping power because I could put 16 rounds downrange in short order - and that is a real attention-getting device.

Well, I didn't really stop myself, but anyway.

The single humbucker Bongo, had Sterling gone with his gut instinct and released it first, might have been the Godzilla of Bass. It is (as Heavy Duty Ken will tell you) just one bad-ass instrument.

My first Bongo, the dual hummer model, really kicked my butt, though, and is my go-to config when I am looking for something that will cover me in all situations.

When in doubt, grab the 2H Bongo - that's my motto.

Anyone else up late drinking?

I do need a regular four string Stingray.

The question is.....do I need a DUAL PICKUP four string Stingray?

I really want a regular Stingray, though. Number of pickups unimportant.

BTW, I'm having an industrial strength bathroom-style fan installed in the Scream Parlour (the purple studio/rehearsal space at camp bovine) in order to more efficiently suck the cig smoke out of the room.

It's not so bad when it's just me in there, thrashing around, but the other members of cowpilot smoke, too.

Sometimes it's downright poisonous.

Which none of us realize until we walk out.

ya, I hear ya but since BP was sayin' that the Humbucker position in the SRs and Sterling wasn't changed from the single versions then that got me thinkin' that with the brdg p/u soloed it'd still be close to the single p/u brethren so why not take the chance on more.... kinda like going to 11

I appreciate the offer but I haven't been crazy about the natural finishes (that's Scott Cutrer's specialty). I've had both a Stingray and a Stingray 5 in natural and I'd see pictures of me playing those basses and think - "Nah, that's not me."

Whether I pick up a regular Stingray or wait until the dual pickup models become available, who knows? But whatever it is, I think I'm sending it to my pal Corey for flames and whatnot.

Flames are nice.

And Corey is nice, too. Anyone in the Seattle area who needs work on their guitars, especially acoustic guitars, email me and I'll hook you up with Corey. He simply rocks, both as a guitar tech and as a human.

Corey is still building my mid-60s type psychedelic Beatles Rickenbacker with all the modern amenities. One of these days, I'll ask him about a delivery date so I can alert Sterling, who will undoubtedly give me unmitigated hell about playing a Ric!

Where are my Winstons?

That sounds great. I definitely look forward to seeing that one.

Just got home from a nice 3 hour blues gig with the double Bongo attack.
 Every time I think I need a single H Bongo, I have to remind myself that I've already got great basses that make it tough to decide what's going to the gig. I don't need to make things even more difficult, right?

I mean, it's a foregone conclusion that I will, one day, own a single H Bongo. But, the longer I put it off, the longer I delay the next inevitable bass....

That Stratus Blue Sparkle SR I sold a while back haunts me. I'm also interested in trying out a Sabre. But most of all, what tears me up the most, is whether to send my Bongo off to someone to refinish it to some obsurd, funky finish. Say... Paisley Pink! :D

I'm still waiting for a nine string fretless, nine string fretted, double necked fanned fret, single cut bongo with pink ebony fretboards and a spalted dogwood top.

Or maybe an SHP fretless sterling in graphite pearl.

Come on in - the water's fine! This single H is amazing - I'm sorry I waited so long. And I vote for Blue Pearl.

The one I want isn't made. A natural finish ash Bongo 5.
