The "It's not an Axis or Wolfgang, honest" new Peavey!

Well, NAMM sees Peavey finally reveal what they're doing after EVH's defection to Charvel, taking the Wolfgang patents with him, and here it is:

A bit odd I have to say. I didn't like the offest Wolfgang shape when it came out and this looks just as odd. Somehow, the twin horns just look wrong. Or is it exposure to the EVH and Wolfgang that makes it look too unsubstantial?

Good job EBMM carried on with the Axis then. Original is always best

I was really down on this guitar when I first saw it. For one, the HP Special is about as boring a name as you can get. It was then pointed out that SG isn't exactly a name that sets your hair on fire. -Fair enough.

I don't care for the horns. Too long and 80's looking for my tastes. There are some killer photos on the PV board though. It has some body contours like a PRS that make it look much tastier than I originally thought.

I don't like the floating trem. The pickups will be the same as the Wolf pickups. The neck will be at least very close to what the Wolf neck was if not identical. And it will be selling for less than the Wolfgangs sold for. I don't know the price though. '

Over all it looks like a good guitar. I'm glad I have my EVH and my Wolves though.

PV wasn't in the same boat EBMM was when EVH left. EVH owned a lot of the design features on the Wolf so PV had to change the guitar. My understanding is that EBMM didn't have to change anything they didn't want too for the Axis. That was certainly a good deal for EBMM. It would have been nice if PV could have just moved the pickup switch, contoured the back and released it as... I don't know, "The Axis of Evil".

It will be interesting to see how the HP's take off without a big name tied to them.

after owning a peavey product (wolf) and now owning a EBMM EVH, i'll never buy a peavey guitar again. NO COMPARRISON!!!

They're actually not wolfie copies, its a redesign based on the fixed bridge HP Signature guitar's (which suspiciously look like the Dean Hardtail, which isn't an 80's shape..that would be point, these look more like a PRS) body shape....they pretty much kept the wolf pups and the PV floyd and wolf's neck shape (notice that little scoop on the headstock is gone tho). They're not as expensive as the original wolf but they'll still bang you for over a grand....

Thanks OC, I realize that they are a totally different, what I meant was, they retained some of the features of the Wolfie (or in fact the EBMM EVH). The little truss rod adjustment and the headstock. I should have been a little clearer. I have seen them on Ebay for under 5bills to the zero,zero! Yo!

I spend about an hour with the guitar product manager going over the guitar as I took notes. Should have my notes up on the site next week. Got to spend some time playing it as well, pretty cool as the coil tap works much better than splitting the Wolfgang pups.

I think they're ungainly and awkward looking - about as far from an Axis as you can get and still claim some kind of evolutionary relationship. EBMM have nothing to worry about! About the only thing I can see happening as a result of this is the value of used Wolfgang's should shoot up about 25%

I think the black one looks sweet, but l already have 2 Wolfgangs, and don't like the pick ups, so l see no reason to buy one of these.

I agree, afterall, they have been inspired by a truly great instrument!

One aspect of these that is pretty cool: They are exclusively Custom Shop guitars. You order exactly what you want and they'll make it for you.

I think the body shape is attractive but uninspired. The body carves are cool. And if those are the standard tops then that will make them more beautiful for sure.

I think they're cool enough but won't be selling my EVH or Wolves to get one.
