The JP Is By Far My Favorite Model but Which EBMM Should I Go For in a Stoptail?

The JP model is for me by far and I'm on #4 but at some point I'd like a stop tail that I can use for different tunings. I used to have a JP7 that I could get away with for heavy detunes but I'd rather have a stoptail six. Which model would be the closest to the JP neckwise with at least a H/H config? I'm thinking maybe a Sillhouette assuming you can get it in a H/H or H/S/H config or maybe an Axis Super Sport? Maybe even a Sterling model? Or perhaps I should go after a used Sub 1? Of course that Dargie 2 Gold Roller that Pete D has is SWEET but that model is most likely is outta my wallet's range!

Probably an ASS. Highest output pickups will make those low tunings just cut.

depends on the neck and the number of frets you are looking for

22 frets I would say a morse Y2D or Axis SS or even better a 25th or Al HH but you will have to wait for it to be released first
24 frets silo 20th, regular one or gold roller

but the morse could the best in terms of neck shape

Well this is kinda easy for what you want it for, the most under rated ,under utilized guitar in the EBMM aresenal, A Silo Bass Guitar, has every thing you have asked for, plus they are cool as hell to play, headstock has a killer one for sale at a great price.

I'm going with the 25th hardtail. Seriously, its cleans are beautiful, but in serial mode that axe can melt your face off.

And how come the SM Y2D w/ Tune-O-Matic gets no love? An absolutely stunning stop tail that is. The neck profile will be different though.

I agree. I have two hardwood dowel slices in mine, one on either side of the trem block. The JP neck is unique, so if that is important, a blocked trem may suit your needs.

The ASS is a great alternative, but the neck is definitely different. Ditto the Silo or 25th/Reflex. All great choices, but different.

Also consider the Morse model for a fixed bridge. IMHO, the neck on the Morse is closest to the JP within the EBMM family in that it has a flatter radius (12" vs 10"; the JP is 15") and is not as thick front-to-back. My Morse is from the mid 90s, I've read mention that the neck may have slightly changed since.

How low do you want to tune? If you want to go real low like A or B standard then go for a Silo Bass Guitar! I havn't even played one, but it is no secret that you need a longer scale length for ultra low tunings, or the sound gets muddy with no sustain. Have you heard Panic Attack on the Octavarium album? That is the Silo Bass Guitar.

Out of the box, I would say maybe ASS comes running up soundwise. But of course, that depends on how much you want to spend for this type of alternative...

Actually, I would try to an used SUB and add one of the JP PUs (D-Sonic, CrunchLab..whatever you prefer)...can't get any closer in sound, look and feel. I know quite bunch of JP players that own a SUB as backup or stoptail addition to their setup...and they are more than happy with it

Closest to the JP neckwise would be another JP, but a runner up is probably a Silhouette or 25.

The 25th can definitely handle detuning (I have mine in Drop B right now). The Silhouette Bass guitar is a definite winner here, too.
