The most popular is the top seller...I think for the guitars, it might be the luke or petrucci...stingray for the bass side.

I'll take a wild guess and say that popularity can, to some degree, be broken down by demographics. There's always exceptions, of course, but I'd imagine that Silos/Specials and ALs are most popular with older or more traditional music enthusiasts, and that JPs are most popular with younger rockers. Axis probably enjoys a wide cross over, covering both modern rock and classic. The Morse, well, I think that is a small but powerful niche.

I'd think it's the popularity of the artist first, then looks of the guitar.

Just mentioning of my favorite guitarist having on-hand help to make the guitar to his specs and recommendations makes it more appealing, at least for me.

Since being on this forum I have noticed that a lot of EB owners have Silo's/JP's and Axis - they all appear to be a very popular choice.
The Morse appears to come in next followed by the AL.

I'm an AL "fan" and for me it is the perfect guitar.
I have noticed an upsurge in AL owners over the last 12 months and Knuckleheads like Robelinda2 and threeminuteboy all say how good the AL is, and that's something coming from "Multiple ball owners".

However I have noticed that when I look at various dealers websites (Pete Dubaldo's being the exception) the AL is invariably not in stock. Does that mean that they are bought straight away by punters or are they not a popular guitar to keep in stock? _ I don't know?

Let's look at some regular contributors:-

Lance Romance a guitar dealer swears by his Limited Edition AL ( yes they are great guitars! ). He has played many other genres, and is very much taken with the AL.

Tommyindelaware - a great guitar tech, a regular player, sold his 60's Strat because the AL covered all it's "duties".

Dudley Gimple designer of EB guitars loves the AL.

MbGreen - Commander in Chief, Head Concho and Accolyte of the Albert Lee Owners Club, will have nothing said against them ;)

So although the AL isn't the most popular guitar, I think that it's one of those "gems" that are known about by a minority of people.

well, a lot of players ( most?) i see arent clean style players, they favour gain and distortion tones, and just cant do anything clean, so the JP wins for those guys. Most guys that pickup my AL's go straight to the bridge pickup and dial in some metal tone- ARRRRGGHHH!

he asked most popular not what you've sold more of. if there were only so many made then thats not fair. i would say the evh. its still the guitar to own and considered ed's best guitar ever outside these boards.

Well, outside of this board and EBMM aficionados, I think that you're probably correct that the EVH is the most popular, because if one doesn't have much knowledge about the current EBMM line, the EVH is what springs to mind. Personally, unless I find a very, very nice example of the EVH (especially if it's hardtail) in either of the two (or maybe 3) colors that I lusted after when I was a poor college kid at the time that guitar was being produced and at a price far below $2000, I doubt that I'd ever seek out an EVH. I just can't stand having to deal with a Floyd. I refuse to ever buy another with the exception I mentioned above. So, for me, it's NOT the guitar to own, but to each his own. That's why there are so many Balls and so many other guitars out there. It may be the guitar to own for re-sale value, but I sure as hell don't want to deal with the Floyd. An Axis Super Sport? Yeah, I'd buy one of those. I've come very close to giving in to the temptation a number of times. EVH? No thanks. Not unless I get it for a ridiculously low price or it's hardtail and at a ridiculously low price. I rather put the $2000+ towards a BFR.

i think i remember hearing/reading that JPs are the most pop guitars and black & natural sr4s are the most pop of all.

im not possitive but thats what i recall

I think I remember some dealers saying that and jongitarz saying that's what he saw leaving the factory in the greatest numbers.

any opinion why did ebmm JP become the most popular ebmm? is it more versatile?is it better?

I don't think it's better. I don't think one can say one EBMM is better than another. That's very subjective. I think it's just that JP has a high profile now. So, a lot of people buy his music, and they also buy his guitars. I don't think it's more versatile than a lot of other Balls. I think it's actually quite specialized. It does what JP wants it to do for his style of music, and it does it extremely well. For the kind of clean sound JP wants, it does a great job. For piezo sounds it's great, but I think that for clean sounds I want something different. It doesn't really float my boat for clean sounds, because I like single coils for that.

well, a lot of players ( most?) i see arent clean style players, they favour gain and distortion tones, and just cant do anything clean, so the JP wins for those guys. Most guys that pickup my AL's go straight to the bridge pickup and dial in some metal tone- ARRRRGGHHH!

The AL is fantastic for clean style stuff. It's so fantastic that when I got to try one, I just played clean. It didn't even occur to me to try to dial in metal tones.

For me, there is no ultimate guitar that will cover every tone I want. I like JPs, because when it comes to the high-gain sounds that I want, for me, no guitar does it better. I love the HH configuration of the JP for that stuff. However, the clean sounds I favor are given by two single coils in the neck and middle position. I think the two are mutually exclusive. Oh well... Maybe, the Silo Spec is really the guitar for me. I'm definitely planning to own one.

Hmmm...maybe, I need a BFR-style Silo Spec with a D-Sonic as part of an HSS configuration.

I'm still trying to figure out how the numbers sold doesn't equal popularity. It's all supply and demand, and if more JPs are going out the door than other models, that's obviously the most popular over all.

Roburato, you won't go wrong with a Silo Special. No one guitar does everything, as you've said, but the Silo Sp. does a whole lot, and does it with style and quality.
