... I took both of my EBMM 5's down to GC and ran a CMD 121P with the NY 151 cabinet, and the fullness of the B string (open) was mind-blowing. I'll probably never need 500w, but that combination of amp and speakers sounded so perfect to me that even if my volume never gets past 1 it'll be worth having that setup... gobs of warmth but no mud.

It handles the low B? The Markbass site says that the frequency response is only down to 40 hz, while the low B note is 30 hz.

Thanks,

My LMII has proven quite ideal over the years.

Well, I said that the fullness of the open low B was very impressive. Did I get a pure 30.87Hz fundamental? Of course not. I don't know of a bass cabinet that has usable frequency response down to 30Hz, but if there is one, I'd bet solid money that it's not a single 15" driver in a tiny box that's just barely bigger than the speaker itself.

I once played my Stingray direct into a top-of-the-line PA that had dual down-firing 18" subwoofers pushed by 1000w each on either side of the stage... I think that was the first and only time I ever heard the fundamental of that open B. It sounded great... but that's not the kind of rig I want to have to schlep around!

My point was that in the land of compromises that is the real world in which we live, the NY 151 added a depth and richness to the B string that impressed me given the cabinet's size and weight.
