Well, Lord Bongo is pretty happy with the Western Conference.

Living in Dallas now, all I heard was how the Mavs were 'destined' to win it all. Anything less than a championship would be a disappointing season, blah blah blah. Well, how does that crow taste, Mark Cuban?

And my beloved Spurs finished off Utah with a CLINIC, amigos, a demonstration of how team basketball should always be played.

Now we wait for the outcome of the East, and if Detroit isn't worried after last night, they're smoking something funny, and I don't mean clowns.

They could still pull it out, but not if they let Lebron James score the last 30 points or whatever it was last night.

So - you got a fave? Think Lebron can take the Cavs to the big show? Think anyone has a chance against the Spurs?

Ok, is the season like year round now? After the finals they take a week off or something and then it's the start of the next season?

Sure seems like it.

And yes...yes I do live under a rock.

Jackie I have a personal interest in the Spurs. First assissstant P.J. Carliessimo is a close friend. IMHO PJ is the absolute biggest victim in pro sports.

My neighbor in SLO and Attorney Robin Baggett got the job of running the Warriors. His first order of business was hiring PJ as the head coach. The Owner Chris Cohan, ( a former SLO resident) was his best friend since childhood and Robin looked after all of this guys stuff on his way to owning the warriors. Cohan is not a favorite of mine he has sued everybory in his wedding party and is now being accused by the IRS of owing 160 million in back taxes . Doesnt break my heart.

THe Spreewell incident was a horrible thing. SPre was trying to get traded....he thought that if he attacked the coach he would. PJ asked him to put some mustard on the ball and he attacked him. NBA legend Al Attles was a witness. SPreewell claimed racial prejudice on PJ's part and the media ran with it. Robin fired Spreewell...I remember the headline in the San Francisco paper...."It's simple, You choke the Coach, You're fired"RObin Baggett.

SPreewell filed a grievience and won...... Robin fired and so was PJ.

Since then he has been unable to get serious consideration as a head coach. PJ is not a racist never been one. Larry Brown when coaching the 76er's had PJ run camp for him...the spurs are going to win their third NBA title with PJ and he will get hardly a mention with the half a dozen coaching vacancies in the offseason.

It was funny. SPreewell ired an image consultant and read prepared speeches with glasses on to soften his image after the choking. It was later disclosed that the glasses were clear and were for show. SPreewell is out of the league after making about 100 million after choking PJ. His subsequent antics included sposal abuse, assult on strippers (alleged) Punching a lady at a party Alleged......and PJ is still first assistant

NOw how come the Spurs dont get mentioned in the same breath as the Jordan Bulls or the Showtime Lakers?

I've found it pretty tough to get into the NBA the past few years. I like the Spurs, and I'll be pulling for them against whoever gets out of the East (not like they need my help). I was disappointed at the way the Spurs - Suns series ended though.

I live in Dallas too but my wife is a huge Spurs fan (I'm a Rockets fan so I'm sorely disappointed:( ). Only Mavs fan in my house is the 5-year old.

I think the Spurs would handle Detroit but they need to be worried about a Cavs team that comes through Detroit led by the type of performances King James has been putting on. He has definitely arrived and it's a statement postseason for him. Spurs still have the edge though.

I know that you and PJ go way back...having lived in San Antonio, I can tell you that PJ's not considered anything but a genius there. Yeah, Pops gets the big press, he's the boss, but no one with any sense dismisses PJ out of hand.

Isn't he being considered for a rather interesting head coach job as we speak?

THe Spreewell incident was a horrible thing. SPre was trying to get traded....he thought that if he attacked the coach he would. PJ asked him to put some mustard on the ball and he attacked him. Latrell is the poster child for NBA thuggery and I don't think there's much doubt that most fans get that. Glasses won't help. Stuffed animals won't help. Changing your name to Winston or Jeeves won't help. He was and is bad for the sport, and we should all be glad he's gone. Thank God for people like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Steve Nash, good guys who play hard and don't have to choke people or shoot their girlfriends to prove their manhood.

the spurs are going to win their third NBA title with PJ and he will get hardly a mention with the half a dozen coaching vacancies in the offseason.

Seattle is what I heard. That might not pan out, but I've heard the Inside the NBA team discussing PJ and different vacancies around the league.

Now how come the Spurs dont get mentioned in the same breath as the Jordan Bulls or the Showtime Lakers?

If they win it all this year, the certainly deserve it. But they play TEAM ball, and while Jordan had a good supporting cast, it was the MJ show and no one doubted it. The Showtime Lakers had some prima donnas, too! Not taking away from anyone's talent, mind you - I loved watching the Bulls during those years and the Lakers, until Shaq and Kobe came to town, were also childhood faves. (Jerry West, anyone?)

Lebron put on quite a show last night. It was definitely Jordan-esque!

I got two words for him, though, during the finals: Bruce Bowen.

In spite of the big Lakers fan that I am i'll have to say that the Spurs will handle either Detroit or Cleveland in the finals with no problem.Doesn't matter who it is, they've got more champonship experience than either of those teams.......and not to mention one of my all time favorite players [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqZQ7fYavT4"]YouTube - Robert Horry Saves The Day[/ame]

Lebron was unreal last night but tough to pull a performance like that against Tim Duncan and friends who play that team defensive type o game...

If Cleveland gets to the Finals, I think the Spurs will take them, but LeBron appears to be taking the leap to greatness that has been forecast for him since high school. Bowen is not going to stop him, but Cleveland doesn't have enough talent around LeBron to get over the top. Remember, NBA superstars get all the calls. Bowen will have to adjust, because if he tries all the stuff he did against the Suns on LeBron he'll foul out by halftime.

I like Bowen though. I remember him from the Sixers, but he's a much better shooter and defender now. I find it amusing that Larry Brown, the vagabond genius of NBA coaches, had Bruce Bowen and Raja Bell on the Sixers and traded them both away when he was trying to build a team around Allen Iverson. Then he complained because his team didn't play defense.

SPURS!!!

I think the Spurs can handle either team in 6 games. I do believe that the Cavs will give them the hardest time though.

I'm originally from Memphis and have a soft spot in my cockles for the Grizzlies. I was really hoping they could get PJ as a head coach. He would have made a huge impact there.

Jack - Being a Knicks fan from NY, I can only say "Basketball in June? What's that?"

BP - Just want to let you know that a lot of people here were not happy in acquiring and did not root for Sprewell.

So, sports-wise, all I can say from NY is "GO METS!" :D

Ah, Robert Horry ........ I remember him fondly for helping bring a couple championships to Houston. Seems every sport has one of these guys that plays on multiple teams but always seems to win championships. What does he have now ---- 6?

I could be wrong but I do believe it is six......2 with Houston, 3 with L.A. and 1 with San Antonio(and probably another one here pretty soon)

Robert Horry (in spite of his treatment of Steve Nash a few games back) seems like a nice guy and a class act.

Ice water in his veins, too, eh?

I think the Spurs will win, whoever they'll be playing.. Cleveland or Detroit. I think they will make short work of whichever team wins in the east.... remember, they are resting now, while the East is still playing.

But, that being said, I still support my home teams...

Hawks
Braves
Falcons
