The Power of STERLING - Tool Schism

CORRECTION!! THE TITLE SHOULD READ - THE POWER OF STERLING -

Anyone likes this tune? Simple but effective and only a grtty ballsy Sterling can make it shine, check it out, I've thoroughly enjoyed this version

While the triplet sound is easy to get to grip with, be weary that If you attempt to play this along with the record, that the tempo switches between 6/4 to 5/8 in the intro and the rest of the song goes from 7/8 to 6/8 every other bar!! If you don't you'll find yourself out of sync. HEHE try it it's a bit nightmarish :D

Very cool! Perfect bass tone with the pick!

But my friend I'm afraid that You miss something, I'm pretty sure that's Sterling?

Unfortunately I'm not pick player, so to play this bass line I should combine slapping and tapping technique!

Tools bass lines are fun to play. if you have a Stingray HH, try playing them on position 2. It sounds almost Identical to the albums tone.

My Bongo HS does that, too. More important for the tone than the bass is the Sansamp. It needs some pretty strange settings, a tiny little bit of chorus or flange helps to get that bell-like tone, as well as turning the PU pan knob a tad towards the neck PU. Don´t pick the brand new strings too close to the bridge, i hit them just on top of the single coil PU and it sounds very nice.

Check out Toolbassplayer`s and Remmiiiii`s Tool Covers, they are top notch all around. The older covers of remi all feature the sterling.

Hey guys, you are so kind. Thanks a lot! :) Actually, after I uploaded the Molotov video I thought of creating a thread similar to this ("The Power Of Bongo") since IMO, that video really captures the powerful tone and character of this awesome instrument. Unfortunately, I forgot about it because of lots of occupations. But thank you for reminding me of this and giving the chance of showcasing the overwhelming power of the Bongo bass!

And of course, that version of such a great song like "Schism" played on a Sterling is simply terrific! :)
