Hi guys!
I've finally solved the problem making me and my BFR SR5 HH very very sad. Since I bought it used there was an issue with it's gorgeus all rosewood neck. The FB was wry and the neck was bending in two places so it was not really fun to play with all those noise it produced that way. But after the sequence of luthier visits, 2 times of FB sanding and refteretting and couple of months for post-stress adapting for the neck it is finally OK except the BFR inlay that however became damaged - so that is the price :(

But in the end, now I can fully enjoy nice and warmy rosewood neck sound).

Very cool bass. How did the neck become defective ?

I have no idea. It arrived to me in that condition. The luthier said that the FB was probably the factory defect. I guess it could affect rosewood that obviously softer than maple. + the bass was in a pretty bad shape. Previous owner was kinda reckless to it(

I really like that bass. I've always been attracted to those rosewood necks. I wonder if you contacted customer service and explained the situation if maybe othey could get you another inlay. Personally it would not bug me, especially if you plan on keeping the bass. As long as the bass plays well, battle scars never really bothered me. They show age and character.

I've always loved the rosewood necks as well. I can be pretty particular with how things look on my basses etc, but I found over time, that I grow to love the little oddities that arise such as nicks, or scratches etc. They make my basses mine, and give them character. Beautiful bass you have there either way!

Call me crazy......but did you ever consider contacting Customer Service at Ernie Ball?

Most of us "Knuckleheads" have multiple instruments from Ernie Ball for a reason. Their products and c/s are the best in the industry. So when I read your luthier thinks it was a factory defect, well, that's just something we really don't see.

Well, there is no EBCS over the ocean. Too bad I have no opportunity to send the bass over 10 000 km to California and 10 000 km back. Even if it is the best CS ever they won't fix the problem remotely). And if your fb is thicker from one side than the other - you know I think there is might be something like "my luthier thinks" (C).

At lest the bass feels and sounds as it should be after "my luthier" (C) helped me with it.
