Hey, u talkin to me? NY
Hey Slav,

I just compared the new locking tuners versus the tuners on my stock Axis, and to get the locking tuners lined up with the original screw holes in the headstock, I had to cock them ever so slightly. Now that I compare the two, I can see it, but I don't mind. You can see for your self in my pics earlier this post.

I'll take a side by side pic later today and post it then...

Thanks, that's what I thought. The reason why I asked is because a few years back I thought about doing a similar tuner swap with chrome locking tuners.

and yes, The Big Lebowski is a MUST See Classic!!!

Seriously Dean? Damn I love what you did Bryan and think it looks much, much more WICKED!!

Thanks alot Mike. You get me. But I do respect Dean's opinion...

But seriously, Mr.Wells, just wait until those real black mother of pearl tuner buttons go on there. Losing the original pearls for the black metal ones was a downgrade, I do agree, but once I swap on the black pearls you may change your mind.

I will certainly check Netflix for that movie. You should put a 'Do Not Try This at Home' disclaimer under your avatar... :D

As you can see, my friend, the black locking tuners are indeed slightly cocked. But, they work just fine, and I did not add new screw holes. What do you think about the slightly 'off' angle?

The back is still perfect with no extra screw holes...and the new angle makes the buttons parallel with the length of the neck...sort of...

I like the mod :) Heck, Johnny Cash dressed in black, why can't his Axis?

Thanks Tommydude,

I got the Black Mother of Pearl tuner buttons in from Germany yesterday, and all I can say is..."Wow!"

And, to paraphrase the Sham-Wow Guy, "Those Germans make good stuff!"

I will post pictures when I get home from work this evening. It really took it up a notch. Even Dean Wells may like it now...:D

Tollie wasn't lying - these are sweeeeeeeet! And the seller included some candy from Germany, too. Weird, but, thanks!

Looking good Bryan I like the way it looks , except the angle of the tuning pegs would bug me. but thats just me

Hi Gio...

The weird angle does bug me, but I'm trying to be distracted by the tuner buttons. Pure artwork!

Tollie Breaking News Update:

My 11 year old son, Noah, told me he felt like he wasn't getting any better than he already was on bass, so he brought David Lee Roth's "Shy Boy" to his lesson this week. I'm so proud that I put a Big Al Dargie 2 on layaway.

Plus, I've been feeling guilty that my 14 year old son, Eric, always plays my Axii when they come over, and Noah has to lug his Ibanez back and forth. Forgive me Big Poppa, it was from Santa! :D

Yeah, Baby.

It's a Floyd Upgrades unit. The MM Gotoh is very high quality, but this one has some brass components and some titanium, too. You design it yourself on their website.

The quality of the F.U. bridge is wonderful, too. And there is a secret allen wrench hiding on the tip of the temolo bar where you screw it onto the unit.

I'm keeping the stock components I stripped off in case she ever needs to go stock again. But, I doubt she ever will. I'm keeping this one.

I strongly recommend a roasted neck to everyone on the forum. Yes, they are that nice.

ok just keep yourself distracted and it will all be ok

By the way, I'm on a MM buying frenzy and I may need an intervention soon. I figure you live the closest to me, so it's up to you...

Please wait until after I can order whatever MM releases for their anniversary on their countdown ticker...

I hope it's a multi-color metal flake sunburst in some cool color-combo...

Er... they are actually perpendicular with the length of the neck, but anyway I think that they look kind of cool that way. Not any better, but I don't think it looks any worse either. The black pearloid buttons look cool. Nice job customizing a very pretty axe to make it your own!

I believe what happened is you got two left and four right side tuners instead of four left and two right. I think you can take the tuners apart and flip them. [I know you can do that with Sperzels, but maybe not with Schallers? Not sure.] If you flipped two of them, or got two more in the correct orientation, then you would have the correct 4+2 arrangement and could re-install with the correct configuration.

So your wife hasn't tried to stop you yet? I'm only about an hour away if you need me to help you through this.
Just breathe and take it a day at a time

Hi Gio!

So far, she's been fine. She asked how much the tuner buttons were and I said, "only twenty bucks each", but then she did the math. I had her fooled for a while when I'd buy stuff from England, and I'd say, "It was only 26 pounds", but then she figured out conversions. I try to stay one step ahead of her. And, she just dropped $300 on a Coach bag two days ago, so she's content.

The Big Al I have on layaway is really for my youngest son, so that's not selfish. But she doesn't know about it yet, either...
