I'm a total Bongoholic, but lately I've given my SR5 a lot of time, and I really like it too:) It has an openness to the sound that none of my Bongos can touch, and 1:st position is a little less of a reach. I sometimes wish it had one more pick up, but knowing myself I'd probably use it full on all the time and lose the good things I hear from this single pu.
And the neck feels slimmer than my bongos, which isn't really a plus in my book, more of an observation.
Also, having only 4 knobs is pretty comforting:D
I know, pretty pointless thread, but hey it's midnight and I felt like sharing...

SR5's are cool

I love mine and as an added bonus I have the extra humbucker, so twice the goodness. Best B string in the business imho

A pointless reply to a pointless thread but hey if it makes us happy :D

Strummer has a beautiful 20th SR5, so it's a bit different from the "other" SR5s.

Single pickup on that baby is HAPPENIN'.

I adore mine, too.

So he does - I am humbled.

I (briefly) held a 20th SR4 at the UK Tony Levin workshop: it *felt* and sounded amazing even unamplified. I'm no expert but I like to play a bass like this first time, I think a good instrument should always ring nicely on it's own and the 20th was something else.

After my Bongo lust is satisfied I think my attentions may well turn in this direction :D

You held a 20th SR5 or a 30th SR4, or was it the "old" 20th SR4?
And yes, my SR5 is amazing even when unplugged, like the way 'm playing it right now, 1.30 AM:)

Anyway, yes it's a rather special bass in more ways than one, but I think and hope that the normal SR5:s are much like it, and I can even see another SR5 in my bass owning future. Of course I see a couple bongos more before that, and a Sterling 5, but sooner or later haha

Sorry, genuine typo, it was a 30th SR4. Tony Levin had played it (with the funk fingers) doing "Break It Down" I believe from "Resonator". Great song by the way.

Mine is over 200 miles away at the moment :(

They must surely pay good salaries in Sweden

This goes back to something I find myself doing all the time.

Bouncing back and forth between my StingRay 4H and my Bongo 4HH.

They each have a sweet spot in my heart for the different feel, tone, vibe that they have.

I know that even when I get a BIG-AL, a 25th Anniversary, and a Stingray 4HH; I will still come back to these two. I will be a merry go round of choices. That is part of how EBMM keeps it fresh for me.

the 20th sr5 is a beast :)

i love it because you get that familiar sr4 shape, a beautiful top, the caramel burst color that compliments the top soooo nicely and the mahogany tone block. i swear that thing makes it resonate more.. and the b string.. its like ed friedland said, the thunder of gods! (now let me just be 12 again and insert a few more exclamations here: !!!!!!!!!!!) :D

if you ever get the chance, do try it out. you cannot go wrong with this bass! :)

Read the first line of my signature

I couldn't possibly do without my StingRay 5, it costed me a lot of blood, sweat and tears to return it to alnico pickup but it was worth it in the end. It now plays like butter and sounds like heaven on heart.

All this from one single H

Strummer - I seem to remember seeing you holding aloft a pink Albert Lee BFR around 12 months ago .............. sounds like the SR5 20th was a worthy replacement!

Anyway - I agree on the SR5 love, although mine is a ceramic pole piece standard one - on the series setting it really seems to cut through any mix, especially when recorded.

Right, that I did and DaveB traded me the SR5 for it, cheapest bass I ever bought:)

I really like the ceramics too, and frankly in a band setting I'd just as soon take any regular SR5, but on tape or for my own amusement, well the 20th shines:cool:

A number of people have said that about the 20th - I really want one - but there again I really want three or four other EBMM basses as well!
