Off Topic The story of your Morse

I was a Dixie Dregs fan in the late '70s (I'm an old guy) but at the time I was primarily a bass player. Some years later I played an older Morse at a Sam Ash store that was for sale for $750 but I didn't have the money- I honestly didn't care for the Blueburst finish either (although in retrospect I should have begged/borrowed/stolen to buy the guitar).
Years passed and I began to play guitar more seriously although I was gigging as a bassist (with my very early Sterling). By this time I was married and not hurting for money so much. This was also around the time that Morses began showing up in more varied finishes. I fell in love with the Buttercream 2005 limited edition and found a dealer that had ordered two Morses in that finish (possibly the only two they built in that run). I ordered it immediately. I showed up a couple of months later.
Now I want a Y2D.

After Dream Theater's A Dramatic Turn of Events came out and I read the interview with John Petrucci in Guitar World I really wanted to try a Music Man guitar. Of course, I wanted the JPXI, but that was considerably more expensive than I could afford at them time. Anyways, I scoured "the Bay" for some used Music Man stuff, but stumbled across the Y2D. The Purple Sunset finish was INSANE. So, after looking around my state for any Music Man I could find, I realized I'd have to order one. I had an old PRS McCarty that I absolutely HATED, so I took it down to Guitar Center and was able to trade for a D-Purpleburst Morse (they didn't have any Purple Sunsets at that time) with a Floyd Rose. When I received the guitar I was surprised that I hadn't seen Music Man stuff before because it was way better than any other guitar manufacturer's product I had played before. I had that guitar for a couple months but couldn't jive with the Floyd so I sold it and got a Purple Sunset hardtail. That guitar was my main guitar for like a year and a half until I pretty much destroyed it putting EMG's into it (not my finest hour). Anyway, I had been without a Morse for about 7 or 8 months, until last Friday when I bought two at Guitar Center. Now, I'm back in the club!

I've got the purple sunset with the floyd as well and yeah, the colour combination is amazing..hands down the best looking guitar I've ever seen.

P.S You changed the pickups? ..

I did change the pickups on the old Morse, but my two new Y2D's will probably remain stock.

i've been an SM fan since I heard "Night of the Living Dregs." I was still a huge fan when i decided to get a guitar for myself in the early 90s while on the east coast. You never saw them in stores. I took the train to NJ Guitar and Bass Center and they had one. I called EB and they recited a list over the phone of all of the dealers they thought might have one. It was a handfull. I went to middle of nowhere everywhere I went to try one out. I found 2 NOS 90/91 6 bolt ones at Giuliano's in White Plains in about 1993. To have 2 was unheard of. And they were boatanchors for Giuliano, not only because he specialized in vintage traditional stuff, but because the demand just wasn't there. Nobody was selling SM's because nobody wanted them. I bought one and eventually went back to get the other, which eventually went to a friend. Years later, I kind of cavalierly bid on one while visiting so cal. it was well used and had a signature under the finish on the back. I'm not even sure that it didn't have a different bridge on it at some point. It's my main one, 1988 and it screams. The neck is VERY similar to the darklord neck.

Now as of this month, I have a darklord, 2 neptunes and of course my trusty old 88. The first two i sold.
