I'm in the Kerry camp on this one.

Saw a bumper sticker the other day that said...

RE-DEFEAT GEORGE BUSH!

...but this is how the world outside the US views your over-the-top consumption of resources.

Once upon a time, I used to live in a huge city overseas, so I understand why folks who've never been to the US can't figure out why it seems we all need to have to have cars here (although I don't at the moment - it's cheaper and smarter to rent one occasionally and use the subway here in NYC). The fact of the matter is, unless you live in one a handful of major cities here, you have no choice but to get a car or you're basically screwed.

Remember, we invented the conundrum called the automobile, and thus have been raised as a car-based culture....not to mention live a spread-out country that isn't as connected by plentiful and efficient public transportation like other places in the world. Plus, most of our residential areas are often tens of miles/kilometers away from where our workplaces are, although I have the reverse problem - I actually work 30 miles outside of NYC, and 3 hours of my day is spent commuting (all by economical and environmentally friendlier subways and trains), and it sucks bigtime. Especially so when you know it takes half that time to get here by car, assuming there's no traffic jams... :(

Speaking of minivans, I had an '89 Chevy Astro - actually, it didn't seem that mini...it was bigger than most standard SUVs yet I could fit 7-8 people in it like the humongo supersize SUVs out there now, yet still park it in a standard car space. It actually had better gas mileage than many cars and SUVs, and I drove it 'til the wheels fell off (okay, 'til the engine blew up at 175,000 miles) earlier this year - pretty amazing for a US vehicle from that era. Trust me, you can get VERY spoiled when you have that much room available to toss stuff into... :)

(BTW, I'm voting for Kerry too...but that's a whole 'nother posting...I'd rather talk guitars too! :D )

hehehehehe....HAHAHAHAHAHA.....funny stuff going on here... :D

Who is Koogie voting for? Well, how about the guy that wins?!?!!? Actually, in my line of work, it doesn't matter....being a gov't contractor and all. I will always be employed by the gov't.....hehehehehehe....I just hope that things are taken care of here at home. Plus, going over to Iraq is becoming quite a nuisance for me. Afgan is no better believe me....I do like going to San Diego (get to see kbaim) but that is about as far as I like to go.....

Minivans.....what, give up the Vet? Not me.. ;)

I can pack my gear in my wife's SUV or her new vehicle when she gets one! hehehehe

The link below shows a pic of my guitars and other stuff I put out there. I am currently re-shooting the pics because of some gear change and it is an excuse to use my digital camera!!! I'll have some better shots of the Ibanez (nice and retired) and of course, my JP's :D

Appreciate you liking the car......Loaded?!?!? I'm doing okay, but I still have to get up every morning to go to work....so I am not that well off.. ;)

I am a gov't contractor.....and I will leave it at that. What I do is not something I like to talk about on forums....sorry, just can't. I travel quite extensively and have been a special guest of Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and other, ummm, interesting areas around the world.

I was slated to go back to Iraq this November, but alas, my boss said no and I'm not complaining....makes my wife happy and a few other peeps I know happy so that is a good thing...right OC! :D Wearing body armor day and night is a pain especially during sleepy time. Plus, I can't take my guitar and that should be a major felony in my book..

I spent about a month in San Diego and had a great time there. Met Kbaim and we played guitar and had a good time. I go to Connecticut sometimes and Florida. So, as I travel, I try to hook up with forum members to get together and play.

Hmmnn. That explains why when my guitar was slightly out of tune when we jammed, he told me to tune the damn thing up or he'd take care of things his way.

KEI...I mean Bob.

You got that right KEI....uh, I mean Bob....heheheeheh

Yeah, there is a vast array of gov't jobs out there. Some entail clearances and others don't. Many locals here work as gov't contractors, just depends on the job and what you are qualified for. Some, like the Navy Ship Yard, have apprentice schools and what not. I work as a "consultant" to a certain degree.

Yes, I do get paid a decent chunk of tax dollars to do what I do. I also believe that you have to live and enjoy life. So, I get the toys that I like....of course, I have to make sure Mrs. Koogie is happy.....hence, the new vehicles she is test driving...heheheheeh......it's all good. ;)

Hey "Bob"....I am supposed to be in your neck of the woods for quite a while next year.....might even bring out the family. I am going to be there supposedly 9 months........lots of time to jam! :D I'll let you know when I know.

Ha...Me and Koogs went JP for JP for awhile, tho it looks like he's beating me with the Radiance Red one....hehehe. When the Silo comes in that totals 4, and I may order another Silo if I dig it earlier in the coming year. Still that leaves a JP 7. Hehehe.

Interesting thread!

Purplesport, gotta haul you up on a fact. In terms of the internal combustion engine gasoline powered car, the first was invented by the Germans (Daimler and Maybach) in 1889. Prior to that the french were into the steam thing but not going anywhere fast :D . Henry Ford then invented the mass production technique.

My wife is American so I've been there loads of times. I understand the lack of mass transportation (buses, trains, metros etc) and the distances involved. I realise that you guys need cars more than other nations, I just dont see why so many drive huge gas guzzling cars, pickups, trucks, and SUV's. Why theres a disgusting amount of urban sprawl going on when so many empty buildings could be used for redevelopment, why restaurant meals are so big there's a need for "doggy bags", why with 4% of the planets population the US makes 25% of the pollution... And the first thing Bush does as president is back out of the international emissions based Kyoto Treaty, gives benefits to truck making auto firms and starts drilling for oil in national parks. Bush Laden, eco terrorist

Rant over as none of us are perfect but being more aware is essential. I've just returned from Africa and seen people living in mud huts with literally nothing...it puts things in perspective. :(

NEXT: Lay of Koogies salary! If he spends time in a bullet proof vest he is more than entitled to a few JP's (from sustainable sources of course :D ).

Koogie, do they all play / sound differently (options like piezo aside)???
