Alrighty Everyone,

Welcome to round 2, the trivia round, of my wacky string give-away. The first person to answer the question correctly gets to choose from one of these lovely sets of strings:

We got a set of Slinky4s, Hybrid4s, Power4s, and Slinky5s to choose from.

And the question is:

What model and year was the capstan wheel first introduced in the MM lineup?

The usual rules apply. Sorry, Dudley and Gav, you guys are exempt. Oh yeah, and BP too. And bass&cookies and Azzy, cuz they won theirs already. OK, have at it!

I'll say 1986 Silhouette. (or at least the guitar that became the Silhouette)

Is that your final answer?

Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!

We have a winner!

Dave, come on down!

PM me your info and what strings you want. I'll get them in the post as soon as I can.

Whoahhh... really? Wow.

I'm going to be a bit controversial and go for the Slinky 5s...

Good show Tom!

If you think of a good question for the guitar side I supply a set of either 9's or 10's for the winner.

These appeared at my door yesterday, and having band practice last night, I left them until today to install.

I've put them on my regular SR4. The lowest 4 that is, BEAD.

Surprisingly, there were no issues with the nut, but then I've been using Power Slinkys for the last couple of years (as well as other strings, particularly flats), so the nut has probably widened through time.

First impression... it's going to need a set up, but I'll wait until tomorrow to start playing about.

I've never really played around with 5s, mostly due to their relative rarity in this country and I've never really felt the need for a B string until recently. Plus it's a pretty scary thing, losing your frame of reference on the fingerboard.

It's not as bad as I'd feared. I still know where I am on the E, A and D. I've lost the G string and gained a thumbrest. It'll take a litltle while to get used to, but no biggy.

I'll report back after the next band practice on Tuesday (thankfully, there are no gigs in the pipeline)

Thanks for these, Tom!
