Really diverse tastes among us, which I think is a cool thing.

In general, I want my pickguard to blend, not to make a statement bigger than the wood it's attached to. It also works well with contrasting pickup and knob colors. That's why tort often works for me: it blends with strong primal colors, like black, white, sunburst or blue. I've been jonzin' for a black/tort/rosewood SSS ever since GH and I were talking about the new Special he ordered - which he changed at the last moment to ah bologna. :D

Hahaha, and on the opposite end of the spectrum, I love pickguards like the ones on Vai's RMR guitar. Mirrored and flashy!:D

Or none at all. :p

Really gotta keep that "poo poo platter" in mind. I nearly fell off my chair... :D

OK now, we got piercing, everybody raving in pros & cons about tort guards, but I see no other ugly PGs pics from you guys. No one has some ?!? C'mon !

...I didn't start this as an "I hate tortoise PGs" thread after all. ;)

Let's see some more PGs, please !!! :)

Add me to the list of cats who hate the tort look, although it works really well in certain situations. There was a candy red Morse with a tort guard that was floating around NY when I used to live there (I believe it ended up on ebay), that combo looked incredible

That was the guitar that made me get a tort guard on my candy red silo special.

sorry for the light and color variances

One man's ugly is another's purty. White pearl was, for me, horrid. Too much flashy plastic. Black pearl actually wasn't bad for me, but it felt too inert and serious. Tort (shown with cream in place of white) just feels organic to me, and thus is my choice.
