No...this isn't a thread about Stu Hamm's signature Bass. This is about a band that I first heard 10 years ago called The Urge. They were out of St. Louis,MO and they had a few Major Label discs but broke up about 4/5 years ago. They were a VERY funky hard rock/metal band with horns that put on an amazing show. It wasn't SKA , and it wasn't trendy-it just rocked.

The reason I bring them up, is because today I was sifting through some old CDs and I found their first album Receiving The Gift Of Flavor. Their bassist Karl Grable used Stingray 5's and I think had some Sterlings also. The bass tone on that album is so great. So punchy and full of growl. I was wondering(a question for the fine folks at EBMM) if The Urge and more importantly Karl were ever EBMM endorsers? Anyone else remember this fun band?

i have that CD! The Urge did indeed kick ass. I saw them open up for someone about 10 years or so ago and went out and got their CD the next day!

I should hunt thru my pile of CDs and pull that disc out.

I used to hang out with those guys when I did the Warped Tour from '96-99. Super cool guys. I know we have hooked them up in the past.....

Saw them a couple of times when I was going to school in Missouri. Real kickass live show. Used to play Columbia a lot, so they were pretty big on campus. Shame they broke up.

I loved the Urge, saw them open up for fishbone a couple times 10 years ago.. I thought Karl had nerve damage in his arm from screen printing shirts, and wasn't playing anymore... I guess a lot can happen in 10 years though.
