While changing strings on my Axis right after it was brand new, I removed the Floyd to scrub the showroom scum off the neck and body. I immediately noticed that there seemed to be an extra hole, normally covered by the Floyd, that looks like a third anchor hole, smack inbetween the other two. Is this normal?

I bought the guitar new and the hole was obviously there at the factory because it has finish on the edges (in other words it was not drilled after the finish was applied).

Of course it doesn't change the playability of the guitar, but I am curious if everyone has one?

By the way, the Axis is the most fun guitar I've ever played. Thanks EB/MM!

Interesting. Yes, it's definetely not a problem, but now knowing it's on every guitar, I'm dying to know why it's there. Anyone? Conspiracy theorists welcome.

Yes that hole is on every MM EVH/Axis guitar.
It is referred to as a "Index Hole"or "Locator Hole". The hole is used as a point of reference when the body is routed on the Fadal(CNC) machine. It is also used to hold the body down to the sanding harness during the hand sanding process. Once the bodies are painted it serves no other purpose and will not affect performance.

Thanks

Yes, it was starting to affect my eating habits actually...thanks for clearing that up there! ;)

(Given my current stature, however...that may not have been a bad thing.) :p
