I had no idea that the #2 pickup was a tele pick-up, that's cool to know, thanks.

So, it's a Tele bridge pickup type?

on the frankentele......it is a tele neck pickup in that position.

Are we all talking about the same position? I went to the EBMM website and looked at the SM guitar specs. Here they are:

Pickups - DiMarzio (I'll do it from the diagram's perspective)

1. Humbucking - DP-200 Morse Signature
2. Single coil - Proprietary Custom Wound
3. Single coil - DP-108 Vintage Single Coil
4. Humbucking - DP-205 Morse Signature

Tommy talks about the Tele neck pickup. On the Tele, that would have been in pos. #2 (Tele neck pickup). However, from the website, that is a DiMarzio DP108 (VS-1)Strat pickup. DiMarzio doesn't make this pickups anymore. Are they making it special for this guitar and EBMM?

When Beej mentions the "Tele pickup" it looks to me like he's referring to Pickup #3 in the diagram; the one closest to the bridge humbucker. That is the one EBMM has listed as a "Proprietary Custom Wound" single coil. That said, is it voiced like a Tele bridge pickup?

Sorry to bring this thread back up; but my curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Cheers,

impatient? :D

sorry, I can´t help but I´d guess Tele-neck-pickup-alike in bridge position.

I think I read somewhere, that the neck SC is like a Strat middle PUp, but maybe I´m wrong

Voiced after the neck or bridge pickup?
The single coil closest to the bridge was a Tele neck pickup on the old guitar. The DiMarzio is wound to be similar to that.

In Steve's own words ... "The single-coil, which is right next to the lead pickup, is thinner and more hollow. It's got a peaky sound in the midrange, but if you mix that with the humbucking right next to it, it adds a little bit more mid and lower end. It adds a gentle out-of-phase quality, but it's electronically in-phase." Interview here.

Yep, Steve tried all kinds of pickups in that spot and ended up going with a DiMarzio strat-style pickup.

Good interview about his pickups here.

Ahhh, the Morse red 80's pants. Those were the days.

Another thing about players that mainly play the Morse model...they all seem to be incredible guitar players.
