I want a chorus pedal to go with my peavey 5150, gain and lead sound, even though chorus is usually for clean, which i will use also, but i want to simulate evhs 90s harmonized sound ( without spending a fortune on an eventide and stereo setup) any ideas? Even though someday i will get the h9 and two extra 212 cabs to run a wet dry wet, with a solid state PA to power the outside wet cabs. But for now just want some new sounds any ideas on a good pedal?

I use my phase 90 for a "chorus" type effect. You just have to find that subtle sweet spot on it. Crank the speed knob down low & give it a try.

The Dreamscape is $170 and includes 2 types of chorus, flanger and vibrato. Plus the toneprint.
I use it with my Mark V and is great for cleans and distortion.

You are going to want some pitch shift "detune" in there. There is a pedal out there that has the SPX 90 detune algos that does exactly this. Its called a yamaha magic stomp. Its not in current production. There are other "gear pages" and forums about "Huge Racks" that, with a little search via google can get you the exact info you need. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tom

Since this is an Ernie Ball forum and not a random gear forum, I will tell you what chorus pedal works best with my EBMM JP guitars.... and that, right now, is the Dreamscape.

I have the Strymon Mobius as well, and that is awesome, but pound for pound, the Dreamscape is great. I only use 2 of the 6 settings (3 if you count the tone print), but the 2 I use are epic.

I always find that the standard Boss pedals are more than good enough - sometimes even better than the 'boutique' offerings.

I have used the Boss Super Chorus for years and have been very pleased with it.

One thing that is good about the boss pedals is that they are buffered, and use FET switching. "true bypass" pedals aren't always good, especially when you have a passive guitar. The capacitance in the system can alter the sound, as it interacts with the guitar electronics.

So, I would also go with one of the Boss Offerings. They have been around for years, are reliable, and you know what you are going to get.

I like my vintage Boss CE-2 chorus, think I got it 1982 or so. Still going strong. You might find them used around $120 or so. But it would not have that kind of doubling-chorus sound that I think you are looking for. As for the sound, instant 1980ies!

For an EVH chorus sound I would suggest an MXR Analog Chorus (or Black Label. They're the same pedal.). There are some good YouTube videos doing EVH with the MXR. For a detune sound, maybe check out the Digitech Luxe pedal.

EVH rarely used a chorus. Mostly an Eventide Harmonizer. I can nail 'that' sound with a humble Boss PS-5 Pitch Shifter. Check out a guy on Youtube called Kentcarlevi for examples. Hope this helps!

Vintage Boss Dimension C is my go to chorus. Just amazing. There's a reason why they are tough to find. Worth every penny.
