Hey Guys

So, I've been sick and in bed the last 3 days. Nothing but jamming and looking at guitars...

...and thinking. (DUN DUN DUN!!)

I've had my petrucci for a little over a month. I've got bad gas for a Luke. Not just any luke- a Bahama Momma BFR Luke. MY BFR Luke.

So here's the question:

Should the JP go, to make way for a BFR Luke?

Well, have you tried a regular Luke and do you like the overall tone and playability?

If not, I'd hessitate, as both the tone and body and neck shape is EXTREMELY different to the JP that you own (and like, I believe?). Moreover, EMGs really are a love/hate thing for most people... Personally I can't stand them, but I know a lot of GREAT musicians amazing tone with the dreaded actives.

XCheers

I hate parting with any of my guitars, so I'm tempted to say: keep the JP AND get the BFR Luke. But, I gotta say, these BFR Lukes are so sweet...don't let anything stop you getting one!!!!

Well, I've heard the necks are extremely comfortable, and they are the most versitille guitar. And with me, everything is about versatility, so I figured that would be the way to go. A BFR Luke with Piezo seems to me to be the most versatile guitar there is, no? I'm not a shredder by any means- I just love to play guitar.

What, are you mad!!!!

A MM guitar should NEVER go to make room for another MM. It doesn't make any sense at all. If you could afford one, you can afford another one without having to sell the first one.:)

If it's all about versatility, get a Silhouette

If you were going to simply ADD a Luke, I would go for it without a second thought. However, since you are considering a swap, I'd say don't do it - without playing one first. The Luke neck is SIGNIFICANTLY different, and you may and up not liking it. I love it - but it did take some getting used to. I'd hate to see you regret your decision.

The JP and LUKE are two very different guitars. Keep the JP and add a LUKE to the collection. You'll regret it otherwise, IMO... Good luck!!!!

Yep, the Luke and JP are totally different guitars. I have both and would echo the comments above about trying a Luke before taking the plunge if you are a JP guy.

I'd consider the Luke my main guitar, very versatile and nice and easy to play. I'm warming to the sound and feel of my JP a lot more now, it took some getting used to initially after the Luke.

Thanks for the help guys! You sure know how to settle a restless soul , sort of. Looks like I'll be finding me a new Luke, AL, or ASS someday soon...if some magic happens in Connecticut ;)
