Thinking of changing my HB in my Silo Spec. Suggestions?

Hey, Knuckleheads.

I've just noticed that the polepieces on my Silo Spec's humbucker don't really line up with my strings. I bought it used, and I'm guessing that someone put in a humbucker that wasn't F-Spaced. I mean, it sounds okay, but I'm considering a switch if the pickup that is in there wasn't the original pickup anyway.

Looking for something a little more on the modern side, but I'd like it fat and warm. I want good crunch, punch, and definition. I don't want it brittle and tinny. Mud not allowed.

I'm thinking of The Breed Bridge, which seems to be popular here, but I'm curious to hear what other people think about various pickups for a Silo Spec. Specifically, the following DiMarzios:

Mo' Joe
AT-1
Crunch Lab. Heck, even the D-Sonic
Tone Zone
Steve's Special

While we're at it, what do you think of the Breed Bridge?

I'm leaning toward the High Power selections.

Well, i've never heard the Breed Bridge so I can't give an opinion on that pu, but i'd say go for the Liquifire. It's got enough low end punch to kncok out a baby elephant without getting muddy, and enough clarity in the mid and high register to cut through the mix! Failing that you could try a P*S Dragon II, Used to have a pair and they give a really nice vintage tone with a modern edge!

I'm not familiar with the Breed, but really like the AT-1. Andy Timmons has great tone. My next Silo Spec will have an AT-1 in it.

The Tone Zone sounds huge but your guitar has got to be very "tight" or else it can get muddy. It certainly has more lower end/mid oomph compared to a Steve's Special or D-Sonic.

The evolutions are nice as well but I feel they lack a bit, just a bit, of attack.

I've had the good fortune of trying most of the pickups you are considering. Of those, I like the Crunch Lab best, followed by the Tone Zone. Both are excellent, Tone Zone just a bit darker. Breed is excellent too, I just liked the Neck version better than the bridge. Had a Steve's Special in an old Ibanez, seemed a little brittle to me. Hope this is of some use to you.

I thought about going with a crunch lab in my silo too. Gonna stay away from EMGs with this guitar all I know for sure!

I had a Silo Special that was loaded with a Tone Zone in the bridge position. I thought it sounded great. It had a very crunchy, punchy tone when you had it cranked, but it cleaned up very nicely with the volume rolled back.

My two personal choices would be a Tone Zone and a Breed.

Does yours have the standard 250K vol and tone pots ?

If so, the ones you've mentioned won't work at their best.
The AT-1 in particular needs a 500K pot, I know because I'm selling one after it didn't work for me, and dimarzio says the same of their others.

I've just fitted a WCR Godwood with an A2 magnet and it's blowing my mind it's so fantastic.

I've just fitted a WCR Godwood with an A2 magnet and it's blowing my mind it's so fantastic.

I called Dimarzio when I was looking to replace the bridge HB in my Silo Special because of the 250k pots. I ended up trying the Norton based on their suggestion & have been very happy with it. It's medium gain & blends pretty well w/ the the other 2 pickups.

Good question. I don't know the answer to that. How would I find out. Are the volume and tone pots labeled so that I (or a tech) can find that out?

Silo Spec has 250K pots mate.

A few suggestions if you don't wanna spend out for WCR ( I LOVE mine, got them in my PRS too )...
Duncan Pearly gates bridge ( fab with 250k pots )
Duncan JB.. if you want to rock out ( works best with 250K according to the " experts " on the Duncan forum )
Lollar imperial
Dimarzio Hot PAF.. if you can find one.

I have a SD JB in my Sub1, I love it so much! I like it better than the D-Sonic in my JP. I'm going to change the pups in my JP because the feel is perfect, but I've found that I prefer the JB to the D Sonic. I've heard the Breed sounds like the JB, so this might be the way to go for me. Any thoughts?

dude SH-11 seymour duncan sounds great in a silo heavy and precise , because these guitars are so bright this pickup compensates for it and gives you a nice mid range with plenty of grunt!!
