This Has to be UNSaid!

Ok guys, I do not mean to offend, but I have to be honest with you guys...I just got my Wolfie in the mail and it ROCKS...I'm shredding lettuce like there's no tomorrow...and I have to say that it feels better than my Sub1...now please no disrespect here, the only reason I got the Wolfie was because it was made with the Axis in mind, so it was like a taste of the real thing...so my question is, if this is smooth as silk(even though I need to change the strings, clean, oil and then wax it), if the Axis is smoother then I don't know what I'll do, I'm freakin just thinking about it...is it the maple as opposed to the rosewood...I need to know?

The Axis kicks the wolf... Don't get me wrong, they are both excellent guitars. I just love the Axis much more.... yes, I've played them side by side. :p

As far as Sub vs Axis. Duh! You get what you pay for in this respect, the axis wins hands down... Don't get me wrong, I love the sub, but I can never stop playing the axis... I can never stop playing any of my music man guitars!

having owned both, and played several of both, mho is that the neck and pickups aren't even close. the neck doesn't have the same taper or even the same radius, while the pickups on the wolfie are more harsh. they're both awesome guitars and you have to love the arch top for playing live...beats no contour on the evh or axis. also, the flatter radius on the wolfie makes for lower action if you want it. shimming the evh or axis isn't much of an option since the radius is too round and bring the g and d strings into buzzville.

having said all that, I don't even think the axis guitars have quite the tone of the evh guitars initially made. I've experienced the phenomenon too often to call it coincidence or bias. some chalk it up to age of the instrument, but I don't buy it. I know pickup windings can't be exact to another (even with winding machines) plus you have subtle wood tonal variations. so, whatever the case, they just sound different to me...at least the ones I've owned/tried.

there are great things about both, though. I just choose what is, imo, a better tone and feel in the neck over an arch top and lower action. it's hard to beat an ernie ball neck, as cliche as it may sound! :D

Well lets not forget that for the money the Sub1 destroys the competition, and if it wasn't for the Sub 1, I wouldn't have found this place, where I have learned more in a couple of months than I have in all of my years of playing. With that said, I guess when my Axis comes in, with the rosewood fretboard, I will compare it to the Wolfie's maple. My next move is to return my Sub1 (since I have another one coming) and order in an Axis. I'm gonna start a Maple vs Rosewood thread...thanks guys!

OK so I just played both guitars back to back and first off, I flew on my Sub1...I raised the HiE a touch and it played like butter...and truthfully the main difference I find is that I can be alot more aggressive on the Wolfie...but man I STILL LOVE MY SUB!...sniff! So maple, rosewood, hell it don't matter...I think it helped also cause my hands were cold... :D
