Guys,
Please indulge me once again. I've asked Darrell to post a link here soon to a song I just wrote and recorded 12/11/04. He mentioned knowing the background of it made it a much more powerful listening experience, so here goes...
The song is called IF THIS IS GOODBYE. It was written for my mom (who is dying) during a week of going to the cemetary and buying cemetary plots, picking out caskets, meeting with the funeral director, considering hospice, talking with a rabbi, and watching my mom slip away.
I brought my guitar over there saturday, after my dad called me and said he couldn't wake mom. I got there and just sat and talked to her hoping she heard me. A couple hours later she opened her eyes, and I said to her I'm writing a song for her that's not done yet but would she like to hear it? She couldn't answer so I asked her to blink her eyes if she wanted to hear it. She blinked. So I played the song a few times through even though it was only halfway finished.
I then decided to finish it right there in her bedroom during the next hour as my dad sat nearby and jotted down some notes that must be eulogy related for when the time comes. All in all, a memory that will stick with me forever.
I recorded it with my Luke on the middle pickup, through the Line 6 Flextone II on the black panel setting with chorus and delay. No overdubs, no eq'ing even. Just from the amp on my second attempt. It's in DADGAD tuning and I played it with a pick
I really hope you like this one and it captures the feelings for those here who have lost or will soon lose loved ones.
Thanks so much for listening to it,
KEITH
