There are some specific reasons why you buy a signature model in the first place.

For instance, I acquired the Y2D because of the unique colour scheme - the purple sunset. IMO, i have never seen any guitar in this colour.

Having a name on the headstock does exert some pressure on the player though... but hey - you get to own whats your hero is using :D

The thing that makes MM signatures stand out from others is that each guitar is sooo different that even if you own several JPs or Lukes they'll sound different. And unless you actually want the sound of your guitar "hero" then you probably won't notice it's their guitar you're playing cos you're not going through the same amp or anything.

The thing I couldn't have on my JP is inlays on the frets. I don't really like inlays at all on a guitar anyway, just a small dot on the upside of the neck is enough for me to know where I'm playing. That's much worse for me than owning a sig.

my 1p....

I totally disagree with this - I (imo) have no pressure to play like Albert Lee nor will i EVER will. I can live owning a signature guitar because it is the guitar I want to play - infact I do not play in Alberts style at all. Sorry but this is making me mad !!!

S'okay I've taken my medication now :D

I just feel that the signature models made by EB such as the AL shouldn't be disregarded by the buying public cos it has a guitar players name on it.

Same with the Pet (which I must say is a great guitar too!)

When you play in bars/clubs "Jo Public" will not know an Albert Lee from an Albert Tatlock or a Les Paul from a Les Battersby.

Just buy a guitar for what it plays like not what it is called.

Yup - agreed here about the pet. I have seriously considered the Buttercream Pet6 before deciding on the Y2D... The buttercream look so simple yet an ultra-functional all-option guitar a player can ever ask for. be it signed or not. (but its price is, well, way too steep for me :( )

Funny.

I went to see Rob Zombie earlier this year and noted that the lead guitar player was using a John 5 Tele, and thought "Man, why would a pro with a major act use someone else's signature model on stage?"

Then, I realized it was John 5...

Yeah. Same with me. It kind of felt a bit too exclusive to JP and more of a sig model that way. So I opted for no inlays, which is the wonderful thing about EBMM.

I have often wondered about the fact that you don't see many big name pros using other peoples sig models live. SO, when i day dream, I think to myself, what would I do if my band all of a sudden got a support slot with a half big name? What would I do? It's at that point I'd be giving BP a call and asking him if they could help me out in some way. Much as I love my JP, it would be weird making that step up with a sig model............. just remembered, I'm sure Harry Connick Jr has used an EVH live before.
