i like it also when used in moderation but edward has been gettin overboard with it lately. some tink the wolfgang was the first guitar ed used that in but during the opening night balance show ed used a trans blue ebmm evh with a sustainer. would like to know from jon or dudley if you guys made that or did ed just add it afterwards.

Yeah evh using way too much and it just distroyed whatever comprehendable playing that was there, it's not a tool to be used all the time, l like when it's used tastefully, Luke uses it from time to time, like on the track Bottome of Your Soul, it sounds fantastic there.

It was likely EVH tech who put the sustainer on his eb guitar, in the past Jon has said that they don't normally do those kind of mods, but l could be wrong.

Scott.

Eff it. I just use an Ebow. It's close but not really the same...you need to have a really strong left hand technique to use an Ebow correctly...

spot on. ebow is nearly ALL left hand I've been hooked on it since 98'. So many players get one, fool around with it for a day or so and give up because they don't "get it." it's a matter of syncing up your left hand with your ears and using your right hand for volume control. hands down my favorite ebow player is michael manring. (...yeah. the bass player...)

as for the sustainer puckup: I was completly burned out on it until I saw Vai on the real illusions tour. his sustainer technique is exceptional and much more musical than EVH's tired overuse of the device. since then I've been playing with the idea of getting another axis to put one in.

Towards the end of that vid he selects an effect that makes the sound cut out and come back in again, i.e. pulse. What kind of effect is that????

yeah i didnt know if ed added the sustainer to the eb or if if was made that way. i mean the did make the only 2 double necks for him. i will have to ask the story behind that someday as jon and dudley have been very helpful with info like the silo they made ed and other things.
