Hi forumites. As i posted a few days back my cab and gk rig (the neo212 and 1001rb II head died on me due to a bad circuit that ultimately caused meltdown). So I just bought a mesa boogie bigblock 750 as well as a furman series 2 power conditioner and ata six space rack case. I want a big road worthy cab as the 212 was very clean and good for studio but not suitable for concerts with 500 1000 people like i usually played. She got the job done but i think i might havfe pushed her too hard. She lasted a year. Anyways are these mesa heads as good as they say... What cab matches well with this head? Im thinking about the powerhouse 1200 with the 4 by 10s and single 15. Im also thinking about 6 by 10 ampeg if i can find a USA MADE one. Any other suggestions of a cab that might complement my rig... I hear a lot of people like 2 by 15s... I play mostly rock (ska and punk derived stuff) and slap from time... Id appreciate your ideas and thoughts...

My opinion, yes the Mesa gear is top notch.
The "tone quest" for me has always lead back to Mesa.
I'm currently waiting to try out one of the new Mesa Fathom bass heads (who knows when those things will actually make it to Montana).

I suggest mesa 6x10 roadready if your looking at those.
My personal fav. though , two roadready mesa 2x12.
4x12's do rock but are a pain in the butt to haul around (been there done that).

Mesa is all that, and a bag of chips. And have never left me desiring anything else.

I love my older 215 and 1516 cabs that I've had for the last 19yrs. But if I was go out and buy new big cabs, I'd go straight to the Powerhouse 1000 4x10's + 1x15, or the 610 cab.

I have no personal experience with Mesa stuff, but I would think you may lose some of the bite of your slap playing if you go with two 15's. I would think due to their size and time of response they may not be as quick to convey the attack that I look for when I slap. The 4x10 single 15 combo may be just what the doctor ordered though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again "slapping is for Pimps and doctors"

from my experience with mesa rigs, you gotta have at least 1 15" speaker in the mix...i found the 10" speakers thin out too much for me on mesa rigs...i also like a heavy low mid and bottom sound though

I've always had good results for all styles with Carvin amps and cabinets with my Sterlings and Stingrays. I've had my full rig (4x10, 1x15, 500w head) since 1992, and save for replacing the 1x15 speaker last year, I've never had a meltdown of any sort. The power is tremendous and the tone rivals any brand out there. Sometimes there's too much hype around the Ampegs, Mesas, and SWRs. Try a full Carvin rig, you may be surprised. Great bang for the buck too. Plus, I understand they are coming out with a whole new lineup soon.

I can attest to the Carvin gear, I did the redline 1000 series III with two 4x10's for a while. It took the low B punishment no problem. A very clear punchy setup.

I only had a few minutes to try out a Fathom hooked up to the Powerhouse 2x12 and 1x15. It was just awesome. I plan to go back with my own cab and see if it still sounds great.

I ended getting a powerhouse 1000 with the 4 by 10 and single 15. Its about the best cab Ive ever heard. Not as clear as my gk neo 2 12 but alot more character and punch, and the air. the 2 by 12 gk doesnt even come close. I did sell my mesa bigblock 750 and bought a mesa400+. The 750 was excellent but Im going out all tube since im not going to be on the road that much... and those 400+ I can see going up in value on the long run... Anyways yeah mesa is awesome.
