I have a Sterling HS, Warwick Thumb BO and a Fender Mustang. I've had the Sterling for over 1-1/2 years and the Warwick for about 4 months. The Fender is even newer.
I was very excited when I purchased my Thumb. But over time I have found that I still prefer my Sterling over the Thumb. The Sterling is just so comfortable to play. It feels like it was custom made for me. Sure the Thumb is enjoyable but I actually prefer my Mustang over the Thumb. All of this is very interesting to me when I consider that the Thumb now sells for almost twice the price of my Sterling and five times the price of my Mustang. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice, well made bass but it's overpriced. I've actually considered selling the Thumb.
FYI, the Fender is the first Fender that I have found that is absolutely flawless in every way. I don't know how many Fenders I had and returned shortly. Although it's not replacement for my Sterling, it's a great little bass. Of course one could make an argument that it's not truly a Fender because it is made under contract for Fender by a Japanese manufacturer who also makes other brands. But I'll leave that one to the Fender purists. On a side note, this is my third Mustang. All were purchased NIB. The first had fret sprout so bad that you could saw wood planks with the neck. The second one had some fret sprout, but the worst problems were that the nut was cut too low causing buzzing and I couldn't get enough neck relief, even with the truss rod backed all the way off. I found that the truss rod nut was barely threaded on the truss road when I took the neck off to adjust it.
