Today's Lunch: Whopper Jr., french fries, diet coke.

First Concert: Journey, Honolulu, 1983...LOUD! My ears are ringing for two days. For years, I will fantasize about being able to sing like Steve Perry.

Most Memorable Concerts:

1) Yes, San Francisco, Nov. 1999, during "Awaken"...one of those ethereal moments where you're in "the zone" and at one with the universe.

2) Toto, Ventura Theater, May 1999...not my first Toto show, but my first time seeing Bobby Kimball. The band was inspiring. Simon Phillips is an octopus. Lenny Castro played! Cheryl Lynn sang "Georgy Porgy"! And I got to meet Luke, David Paich, and Bobby Kimball after the show. (Luke was soooooo drunk.)

3) Toto, Anaheim, Aug. 2001...lots of improvisation. The boys were literally jamming! My wife's first concert with me; she has reservations about Toto being a "family show" (think Luke with an open microphone), but she comes to realize why I like Toto so much and have been a fan since the late 70s. This actually paves the way for me being able to buy my very first guitar in 2003: a Luke! :D

4) Journey, Honolulu, Oct. 2002...one month after the 1st anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, which is fresh on everyone's mind. A packed arena. Neal Schon plays "The Star Spangled Banner" for his solo. Everyone--and I mean everyone--is on their feet. A "chicken skin" moment. National pride.

5) Proto-Kaw, Manhattan (Kansas), Sep. 2004...Kerry Livgren was on fire. Progressive rock is alive and well.

Prime rib sandwich, water, cherries.

First concert Peter frampton as I recall.

Worst moment at a concert -- getting my q's taken away before ozzy concert with Randy. Though I was going to jail, but they just let me in.

Fave -- can't really say. Bela fleck from 2003 stands out as one possibility.

Lunch: Salt Water and Sand Combo

Body Boarding on one the worst days I've seen in quite sometime...waves were chest/ neck high and breaking all over the place not in any set location...and sideways...I got flipped and tossed...

My first concert: Queensryche and Suicidal Tendencies at Nassau Coliseum....Building Empires Tour '91...I used to LOVE....LOVE Queensryche...those guys fell off big time...they played Operation MindCrime in it's entirety too...too bad those guys use Extra Strat Parts...hehe...

Best Concerts:

Incubus/ Hoobastank - September 15th 2001 Hammerstein Ballroom NYC (this was probably the 6th or 7th time I'd seen them)...the vibe was intense, metal detectors, cops in riot gear, van loads of FBI and NYPD speeding all over...since everyone's lives had been changed just 4 days earlier...9/11/01...the band donated all proceeds from this show and the following show on the 16th to the families of those afflicted by the WTC tragedy.

Rush - 30th Anniversary show at Radio City NYC... 'nuff said...

Tool/ Failure on the Undertow tour '93...at Roseland NYC...great show.

Cursive/ Minus the Bear/ No Knife - Bowery Ballroom '03

Shiner/ Engine Down - '02 the Egg Tour...Knitting Factory NYC...Shiner OWNED.

deftones/ Poison the Well/ denali - '04 Hammerstein Ballroom...best i've seen Chino sing...period.

Dredg (opening for deftones) october '04 Starland Ballroom Sayreville NJ - they rule...Owned deftones that night...consequently this is the WORST i've seen chino sing, and the deftones as a whole (just blowing off steam and being drunk so it was more a fun show for them...)

Any of the DT shows I've seen over the years (11 or 12 at least), but the most memorable had to be the SFAM show in the winter (not the dvd taping) at Roseland.

Morse Band/ Dregs at IMAC Huntington NY - my brother Koogs in attendance...great show

Satriani at the Beacon Theater (91-92 or so...) Time Machine Tour...it was snowing like a MoFo that night and my cousin drove me and a friend in to the Beacon to see the show from LI....Satch was my idol back then...

phish july 2003 Post Gazette Pavilion (Formerly StarLake Amphitheater) Burgettstown PA - like 30m mins outside Pittsburgh PA...trey was on fire on this one...phisheads regard this one as one of the best phish shows period...let alone the summer tour of that year...something great about being outdoors and under the stars on the side of a hill....great venue too...the yuenglings were cold and probably the best i'd ever tasted...

Worst Concert - Bonnie Tyler

Best Concert - Television, 2003

I saw the RHCP back when they were doing the sock thing...that was a pretty good show.

Pretty much any show at the old 930 club was good.

Lunch: cheesesteak at Idlewild park in Ligonier, PA.

First concert: get a load of this: Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, with opening act, New-York band TALAS featuring Billy Sheehan! This was at the Syria Mosque Ballroom in Pittsburgh right between Yngwie's first two solo albums (post Alcatrazz). The venue was so small, Phil Naro, the singer for Talas at that time, kept knocking down ceiling tiles with his mic stand (when he twirled it around). Talas had Mark Miller on drums, and he blew up the PA system in the middle of his drum solo. It took a little while before the PA was back up and running!

I stood about 12 feet away from Yngwie, who used 3 full Marshall stacks for that tiny venue. I was hearing a 'squeal' in my ears for 2 or 3 days after the show. It was hands-down the loudest concert I've ever been to.

In spite of seeing two virtuosos that night, I still kept playing guitar. Hahaha.

Favorite concert: King's X at a bar called Metropol in Pittsburgh. (I think it was in 1991 or 1992.. I have the ticket somewhere). They sounded just like the freakin' CDs! And that venue is a real byotch to EQ, as it is a converted old warehouse!

Lunch....was a turkey and cheese sammich.

First show was Elvis Presley with my Mom when I was a youngin'.....I kept covering my ears because of all the woman screaming and I was too young to realise why.....if I had been older.....might have hit on some for a date....heheh..

Best show.....has to be the Steve Morse show in April when I went to New York to see him and the Dregs with OC.....great show with great friend!

Worst show...Motley Crue in Va Beach.....Tommy Lee was not with them and Vince Neil just slurred his way through the lyrics he could remember and just forgot the rest......he certainly remembered all the curse words......basically, the show was garbage. Megadeth opened and rocked though. It was my 7th Crue show and it was by far the worst....oh well...

Lunch was a chicken sandwich.

First show- Rush (Signals tour). Seen every tour since!

Biggest/best show: U2 Zoo TV tour. Third row centre. Not a big U2 fan, but that was an unbelievable show! (Not to mention a bunch of us sold our 5th and 8th row tickets - we had lucky pulls at ticketmaster - and made a small fortune. Accordingly, took a bunch of friends for free to the show.)

Smallest/best show: Ramones at the "Kee to Bala", up in cottage country. Not many people at the venue, but got to strike up a great conversation with Joey Ramone while taking a leak :D

That is awesome. My old Genesis CD's never lie dormant long enough to collect dust. The Musical Box on Nursery Crime has got to be one of my fav's of all time, that Hackett lead that sounds like an old tone generator just blows my mind.

Lunch - Rudy's BBQ.

Other concert memory freed from the mists of time by BP's Genesis post:

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway at the St Bernard Civic Auditorium outside New Orleans. Maybe 400 or 500 people, I was front row. Must have been 1974, maybe?

I forget. Great show. Sat in the parking lot before the soundcheck and talked to Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins.

First Concert : 13 years old and free tickets to VH Diver Down. Sitting on EVH side of stage, first row in red - I could spit on EVH if I wanted.

Best Concert: We used to have a summer outdoor concerts at Empire Stadium for 3 days on the long weekend in summer. One concert had Heart, Chilliwack, Triumph, Doucette, Trooper, Rush, April WIne, and a few other Canadian bands. Was really cool to sit around under the hot sun with the friends.

Dinner (since I'm reading this and eating dinner, at work) - ravioli (homemade) with a salad.

concerts? hoo boy.

First concert - October 9, 1976. Jeff Beck w/Jan Hammer opening at the Spectrum in Philly. They recorded that tour live and made an album out of it.

Most memorable concerts? Lordy. Okay, I'll do my best:

Any Steve Morse/Dixie Dregs performance, but to be fair, I must mention the first time I saw them: June, 1982, at the Philadelphia Zoo. Industry Standard tour, and Mark O'Connor was with them. Holy moley. I haven't been the same since.

The Queensryche/Dream Theater tour from summer 2003 (I saw them in August 2003). Good lord. I wish they'd make a DVD of that. Did they?

Pat Metheny, about 2 years ago in Portland. WOW.

Tommy Emmanuel, August 2004 and August 2005. Double WOW.

I know there's a bunch of others, but these are the only ones that spring to mind.

Other mentions:

June, 1977 - Peter Frampton, J Geils, Dickey Betts & the Great Southern, and Lynryd Skynyrd (pre-plane crash)

March 1978 - Van Halen, they opened for Montrose and the headliner - Journey, on the Evolution tour. Also saw VH when they headlined in 1980 in Philly.

No lunch here :(

My mother wouldnt let me go but I missed Van Halen opening for Sabbath in 1979. I still havent forgiven her for that :) That would have been the 1st.

First concert was Triumph in 1979.

Most memorable has to be Ozzy Osbourne playing with Randy. I saw the Blizzard of Ozz tour and sometime later the Diary tour. Not long after the second tour Randy died.

Dev, I know just how you feel. My mom wouldn't let me go see Zeppelin or Bad Company - both in '75.

That was the first tour I saw them also. If I remember correctly, T played sax on Rock & Roll Park, and Mark joined steve on guitar for Leeches (black les paul?).

Also, didn't they debut ON THE PIPE at that show? (Memory going along with a few other things :( )

Keith, I do believe your memory is still intact - all I remembered was that it was a black guitar that Mark O'Connor played and that Bloodsucking Leeches ROCKED.
Yes, they did play On the Pipe. T did play sax for R&RPark, and apparently that's what he always did when they played that tune.

So, you were at the Zoo too? ARe you from Philly? Have we talked about this already?

There goes that memory thang,
