Today's Lunch: Whopper Jr., french fries, diet coke.
First Concert: Journey, Honolulu, 1983...LOUD! My ears are ringing for two days. For years, I will fantasize about being able to sing like Steve Perry.
Most Memorable Concerts:
1) Yes, San Francisco, Nov. 1999, during "Awaken"...one of those ethereal moments where you're in "the zone" and at one with the universe.
2) Toto, Ventura Theater, May 1999...not my first Toto show, but my first time seeing Bobby Kimball. The band was inspiring. Simon Phillips is an octopus. Lenny Castro played! Cheryl Lynn sang "Georgy Porgy"! And I got to meet Luke, David Paich, and Bobby Kimball after the show. (Luke was soooooo drunk.)
3) Toto, Anaheim, Aug. 2001...lots of improvisation. The boys were literally jamming! My wife's first concert with me; she has reservations about Toto being a "family show" (think Luke with an open microphone), but she comes to realize why I like Toto so much and have been a fan since the late 70s. This actually paves the way for me being able to buy my very first guitar in 2003: a Luke!
4) Journey, Honolulu, Oct. 2002...one month after the 1st anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, which is fresh on everyone's mind. A packed arena. Neal Schon plays "The Star Spangled Banner" for his solo. Everyone--and I mean everyone--is on their feet. A "chicken skin" moment. National pride.
5) Proto-Kaw, Manhattan (Kansas), Sep. 2004...Kerry Livgren was on fire. Progressive rock is alive and well.
