Just sold a custom fretless 5 string, now I need another, but it's going to be a Music Man of course. Problem is,I don't know what to get. I have owned an SR5 fretless in the past and loved it,but the Sterling fretless has me curious, the Bongo even more so. Wondering about the piezo on a fretless MM too. Ok folks, lets hear your suggestions and why. I'm getting my old Bongo 5 HHp back in a couple of weeks,so I am kind of leaning in that direction. Thanks!!

I had a beautiful Bongo 5 HHp unlined back a few years back. Played and sounded amazing. I had to let her go as it just wasn't practical for my situation. I was the lead singer/bassist and I had a hard time not looking down while singing. With my fretted SR5 I rarely look at my hand at all.

I owned the infamous "SmallEQ" 4Hp Fretless Bongo for a while. It sounded amazing (with a good Fretless player). The piezo is a must for a Musicman Fretless. If you decide on a Bongo, pick the pickup setup you like best, as they will all have the 4 band EQ. Stingrays and Sterlings only have a single hum with piezo. JOSH

If you liked your old SR5, then the new Sterling 5's are the way to go if you want that tone. I have a Bongo fretless (no piezo b/c I wanted the 3 band eq) and it's a great sounding bass. Hard to go wrong with any of them.

You're welcome to play my HHp fretless Bongo 5. Currently strung with Cobalts.

It'd give me a chance to check out your Bongo 6. :D

My 13 year old son has a Big Al. He loves it, but his bass teacher loved it so much that he sold his $4000 custom bass to buy a brand new Big Al 5. He told my son that it was the first time a student ever influenced him to buy a guitar. He's a Berkley grad and plays out in jazz bands. He said his bandmates really love his new Big Al tones.

Noah just played out with his Big Al at the Middle School Jazz Concert Thrusday night. He was awesome, and that Big Al just looked and sounded amazing. I am very proud of him.
