I always suck at this!

The best I came up with is "LDL"...

Stands for "Long Dong Leprechauns"! :D

3 piece power trio type stuff... Like Budgie from the 70's...

Only with old guys... Oh wait..... never mind...

Any suggestions??

sitonmybass

"Billie Joe Pimple and The In-Grown Hairs"

"The Snoring Chihuahuas"

"Where's One?"

"The Androgynous Farm Dwellers"

"Plumber's Crack"

Don't get me started; coming up with ridiculous band names is a hobby of mine. I used to have a list of 30 or so. Lucky for you, I have no idea where that list is.

Whatever you do dont name it like my buddies classic rock cover band. They have named themselves "The Licking Boyz". I've learned 2 things:

1. DONT search for them on youtube if small children are around.
2. DONT Have them as a friend on facebook

A name like that raises too many questions you dont want to answer. :D

Get the Scrabble out. There's always some great band names to be found on the board at the end of a game. Seriously :D!

Genius. Doesn't seem to fit the description of the band, though.

Seriously, some friends and I came up with a great way to name bands, along with some tests to see if the name is good.

It's an elimination process.

1) Everybody come up with some names (say, five, but the number isn't important as long as you get a decent-sized list of, say, 20 names).
2) Write them down and have each member cull half the names from his/her copy of the list.
3) The surviving names go on a new list. Add more names to bring the list back to its original size (because you'll have thought of several).
4) Repeat.

Keep doing this... four or five times. Eventually a few really strong candidates will rise to the top. At some point the right name will become obvious.

Now the test, which I call the "water cooler test." At work (or anywhere else you interact with people unlike yourself), during the morning coffee scrum in the break room, find the youngest/cutest/hippest person in the joint and tell her/him the name. If you can do it without feeling embarrassed, chances are it's a good name. Their reaction is less important than your own gut check.

I mean, "Cat Toupee" makes me laugh in private, but if I seriously told the hot 20-something in the next office that it was going to be the name of my band I'd feel like an idiot. Therefore, not a good name.

The two band names we've come up with using this method are good ones... The Implications and Cool Shoes.

PS: A good name should be

- Memorable (made-up words are not memorable)
- Easy to spell
- Easy to say (never name a business something you have to spell out over the phone EVERY TIME)
- Evocative of the music (e.g. Hammer of the Gods is not a good name for a Motown band)
- Durable and not cheesy
- If you can inject some humor it's a bonus (e.g. Little Feat... that's why I like Ritchie & the Undertakers)

Heh. I've been in a new band for a few months now and we're having the same problem. It's come to writing single words (various parts of speech) on a sheet of paper and trying to come up with stuff.

Good luck with that one. I hate coming up with band names.

LDL will inevitably be misunderstood as a cholesterol reference. Count on it.

Lefty Lucy and the Tight Righties

All Good Names Taken

Tres Cojones (EBMM, Arizona and a power trio all in one name!)

The Dargies

BFR (or The BFRs)

Poppa's Pirates

The Pickpockets

The Pounders (all kinds of ways that can be interpreted...)

The Balling Machine (because there really is one in the string factory, and that really is what it's called)
