In your hand drawn diagram, the blacks are the hot leads right? why are the green grounds going to the switch? On the Sub 1 the ground wires do not go to the switch they go to the vol pot case along with the bare wire. Sub 1 pickups are wound exactly like Jackson pickups.

Jamminjim, When you use the flux paste, do you apply that to each component that is to be joined? For example. Like tinning the wire first and also the lug. So when connect the hot to the 3 way switch in my Axis. Would you apply the flux to the wire and also the connecting point on the switch for a real clean joint?

My intention is to just to replicate where the wiring is soldered currently but factoring the Red for Black (hot) with the Dimarzios. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Please let me know if I"m missing anything obvious.
Note: I see the previous guitar Tech (who installed the Suhr's ) took the bare wire from each pickup and spliced it with the ground (green) leading to the pot. According to Dimarzio's wiring schematic for basic dual humbuckers in series is to just take the green and bare to the switch for ground...so this has me curious.

I would swap the Red for Black Hot and I would take the green twist it together with the bare wire and solder to the vol pot case for each pickup.

yeah this is pretty much what I was thinking. I ordered a 'third hand' stand that should be arriving tomorrow. My hope is to do the install this week.

not sure how I didn't reply to this. yes, the blacks are the hot leads. I'm not sure why the previous tech wired the green to the switch that way. I would have thought straight to the pot. emailed CS few days ago , just waiting for the diagram now. Would you suggest removing the vol pot for ease of access? for soldering?

If anyone has a wiring schematic for an Axis (mine is circa 2001), I'd love to have it. I still haven't gotten it from CS and am chomping at the bit to get this done over the weekend....

Okay maybe one more update before letting this thread die. In case anyone is wiring pickups for an Axis circa 2001 ( I did get the wiring diagram from CS) and the green wires do in fact attach to the switch. Initially I just wired to the pot but redid to match the official wiring specs. I did notice a difference with the pickups when I did this. For whatever reason it sounded 'off' when I took the greens to the pot.

note about the pickups. After having such hot pickups in there before (Suhr Doug Aldrich) my ears were used to hearing a really tight compressed sound. They were great , no doubt. So far I am really liking the AT-1 (bridge) and 36th Anni (neck).Sounds very balanced and a lot like the original PU's I had in years ago. Great note/string separation , which is exactly what I was after. less pronounced low end though but will just dial some back in with the amp. The neck pup is smooth like buttah. Was a fun project.
