Tips for tweaking a Petrucci Musicman

i have in my warmoth a seymour duncan blackout bridge and emg 60 neck
it sounds incredibly better than the JP, which kinda got me disappointed with the JP, but petrucci has tons of equipment to make his sound really good, i'd still love to try a seymour duncan blackout in the bridge. the neck pickup is cool. air norton is a godo choice, very clear sounding.

I've used EMG, Gibson, Duncan and Dimarzio pickups over the years and I could never really sell myself on the EMG's. Guitarists I like use them buy I could never find a sound I liked using them. The D-Sonic takes some tweaking to get a good sound and the neck pickup in the JP6 is wonderful.
But then again, there are so many variables in getting a good sound. My advise is to use what sounds good to your ear. Forget the hype of who uses what equipment. Every guitar is different, so find the right pickups for that guitar. It's your guitar, make it that way.

yeah, difference is my warmoth is a mahogany maple top with maple neck and fingerboard, petrucci is basswood with rosewood, I need a really bright pickup i think.

I was under the impression that EMG's would not fit in the JP6 or JP7. I think the routes are to small?
I commited the ultimate sin....I swapped both pickups out for SD's.

I also recommend to find your own sound solutions. I've been using EMG's for 4 years. EMG's are cool with alder body, like in my Rhodes. Tight, very dynamic bass, lot's of harmonics. BUT I have no idea how would those pickups work with JP's basswood (selected). It's only a wondering.

However I have to admit that JP's pickups are great! Air Norton is fabulous and D-Sonic is awesome. A lot more harmonics then EMG 81 offers. Beautiful sound.

I have the seymour duncan blackout which i'm tempted to try out
but then i will lose the split coil sound
